The Griffin Earphone Headphone Splitter's are great for listening to your portable player simultaneously with a friend.
I bought this so that 2 people could listen and watch DVD's on my son's player when we went on Eurostar. It kept both kids occupied at the same time, so what a success!
I also had a go too :o)
I've used them on my MP3 player to share with my other half. In both cases it's actually a very different experience listening and watching something with someone else rather than on your own. Try it and tell me you don't like it.
And to top all that, you have individual volume controls to suit you. This is probably the best feature over others on the market.
The only drawback is the sound quality, which deteriorates from a direct link. Others on the market have better sound quality, or no degradation, but they lack the individual volume control.
