“If I could give it no stars I would! Extremely rude owner!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by McClearywi376 on 20/04/2019

Rang the riding school today to enquire as to whether they had any horses for loan. I was met with an immediate no, is that all.’ (from the person who is apparently the owner). I knew this wasn’t true as I have a friend who loans two of their riding school horses, which at this point I mentioned. Her reply was ‘yeah, but we don’t just loan them out to anybody. Thanks, bye.’ I don’t think anybody has successfully convinced me that I don’t like them within less than a 30 second phone call. And I’m not just anybody - I’m a BHS stage 2 qualified instructor and have previously had ex-racehorses and backed horses of my own but, she didn’t even give me the chance to explain that. I’ve worked at ALOT of riding schools and your business WILL FAIL if you treat all your customers and staff as you have treated me. Believe me, I’ve seen it happen countless times!I don’t understand why people feel the need to be rude to others because for a start you have no idea who you are talking to and the influence they may have in the horse world... I have also looked at other reviews that specifically call out the owner on her rudeness and have seen no replies to these reviews which is extremely poor and shows how uncaring her attitude is, hopefully she’ll start caring when her poor treatment of people is reflected in her profits.

“I am very disappointed with this riding...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by seDaniel194 on 17/05/2015

I am very disappointed with this riding establishment,"Is reddish vale riding school only interested in making money? and not interested in teaching I hope not.My daughter has been attending the walk outs, for some weeks and still hasn't been given the correct aids for walk trot halt etc.stirrups are never the correct length "pulling the rains hard is not the correct instruction to halt" just one of many examples, I appreciate it's only a half an hour but this could be made fun and exciting so much valued instruction could be given in such a short time, and it would be helpful if pupils are categorized in accordance to ability,(not sure if the owner is aware of this)and there is never a lesson plan.On happy note the farm is well kept and animals are happy and living in a city it's an asset to have such a lovely place to attend and bring joy to many.

“Don't waste your time here! Awful riding school”

★☆☆☆☆

written by WesleySantiago on 11/05/2014

My daughter was on 'walk outs' for over a year before she could start proper lessons, which didn't involve much teaching. She learned more in her first few lessons at Glen Jakes than in the 5 years here. The lessons were very repetitive; walking and trotting, and the hack outs involved walking around busy roads (not in the nearby countryside). She only occasionally cantered and jumping was never an option. Staff were extremely rude and unhelpful, using phones during lessons, not making an effort to speak to anyone in the lesson. Once my daughter was shouted at for not holding her reins properly. In 3 years, no one had told her how to hold them. I don't know how they can call themselves a riding school since they don't teach people how to ride. I would recommend Glen Jakes to anyone rather than this place.

“Don't waste or time/money!!!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Horseygal101 on 05/12/2013

Where do I start... Rode/worked here for a year. Riding lesson very dull and repetitive, horses very safe. Owner Jill is horrible and only cares about the money, poor children have to work 8:00-3:00 no payment involved. Staff very snobby (except from Jess and some leaders) and unhelpful. If you want to learn to ride properly go to glen jakes. Noting more to say but a complete waste of time-don't bother going here unless you want to become a prissy rider. They do "loan" horses which means you can pay £20 a week for your child to look after their horse and have the life sucked out them.

“BENS 2ND BIRTHDAY”

★★★★★

written by on 18/03/2013

We had a lovely day at the farm, my grandson's 2nd Birthday, we were in a party of 13 adults and 3 children. The kids and adults had a great time seeing the animals etc.It was great until luchtime, we went to the cafe, and ordered 5 separate orders, ours being the first.WE were told it would be a 30 minute wait, no problem we said. Ours was number 71, they called 65, then 72, then 73, i went to the counter after a 45 minute wait, and the young lady said it would be coming ours must be a large order, it was 3 items. They then called 74, i went up again to the counter to be told we had, had our order !!!!! it was now an hour since we ordered. One young lady said i put some sandwiches on your table, yes that was order 72.We were by then very hungry and very annoyed. Most of our party had finished eating by then.THEY HAD LOST OUR ORDER,we were then told we could have a refund or they would start to cook our order but we didnt want to wait another hour. The young girls never even said sorry, and made us feel like we were trying it on.I was very upset so went to see the lady in charge, she was lovely and said sorry, and offered to the food for free, which we declined, as we had by then had a mars bar. The farm as I said is lovely the cafe needs more staff.

“don't waste your money”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/03/2012

The only decent advice I can give you, is not to go here. The owner of the farm is ridiculously rude, ignorant, has no manners or proffesionalism and profit evidently comes above the welfare of the horses and the staff and also her customers. She was often patronising and rude. The horses are very much over worked, not very well looked after, and are often very tired and grumpy which is noticeable. The whole riding school is practically run by children who are way too young. They also are very overworked and this often results in them being tired, grouchy and not very willing to talk to and teach the children they are leading. They have also lashed out at the horses as a result of this. Taking my daughter to this farm has been a very bad experience and the staff have often been very rude to myself and my children and the whole time we were rushed around. Overall, a waste of money. A waste of time. Just AWFUL!

“Brilliant riding school”

★★★★★

written by on 03/08/2011

I have tried many riding schools to get my daughters into horseriding, and none is more suited to us than Reddish Vale Farm! My daughters ride at Reddish Vale and have now become obssessed with the world of horses and ponies! My eldest(13) rides a named Dennis and my youngest(4) rides a little pony named Presious. My four year old is constantly talking about her leader who she thinks the world of and my 13 year old keeps begging me to buy her a pony! The horses are all very spoilt and clearly well looked after. The stables I have noticed are always clean and tidy and the horses are well mannered, not like some from other riding schools we have visited recently. The leaders are fantastic and are always talking to the riders. Most of them are young however they know what they are doing and are very helpful and always smiling, not at all rude as some reviews have mentioned. My neice also rides at Reddish vale, she has special needs and the leaders take extra special care and talk to her every week, they are fantastic with dealing with her! I would recommend this farm to anybody looking to find somewhere to start horse riding!!!

i go here alot and think that the riding school is great! The staff are all happy and there to help and the leaders help the children alot i know this because my daughter and son go there and always comes back with a smile on there faces and tell me what they did on the walk outs or i watch them in the menage. The place is very clean and the stables are warm and the horses have enough to drink and eat. I also like the outside area with a roof so i can sit and watch my daughter and son.

written by on 21/04/2010

Very poor managed riding school. The kids were all stressed and grumpy due to being pushed into taking too many rides out,and taking it out on the poor horses in front of the customers. The owner jll was very unprofessional in her manner and not at all approachable. word gets around and have heard similar comments by different people. The safety of customers are of a very low standard. My daughter went to see father christmas and was asked by staff to swap presents as she was given the wrong one, my daughter was very upset and wanted the present father christmas had given her. Now she attends a brilliant riding school and has her own pony on loan, she has come on leaps and bounds

“I think that Reddish Vale is a great riding school....”

★★★★★

written by on 19/02/2010

I think that Reddish Vale is a great riding school. All the horses are well looked after and not worked too hard. The owner, Jill, is very good at making sure everyone is safe and running it as best as she can. For beginners you go on walk outs to help you improve your riding skills and your confidence to help you be ready for the menage, which I think is great because you have more balance and you don't rush in to everything. Then when you have improved you are ready to go into the menage (walkout riders also have an experience of what the menage is like because they can go in it every 5 weeks). The menage is where riders can ride with a group with no leaders. As they get better they can move up to a higher group where they will learn something more difficult. The horses are very nice and they pick the right ones for beginners. Reddish vale is great and I highly recommend it. I've been riding there for 3 years and I have learned a lot!

I thought this review was very good because I've been looking through lot's of the other riding schools review's but by far this review is the most detailed and tells you all about the riding. I feel like I know Reddish Vale a bit better. Thanks to this review I would of been starting somewhere else! I can't wait for my first riding lesson at Reddish Vale.

“One word for this riding school... awful! ”

written by on 06/01/2010

One word for this riding school... awful!
i went to this riding school for about 4 weeks and left, the whole place was ran by moody kids who wern't very informative about where anything or any of the horses were... the office staff wern't very organised, some people didn't have horses and one week i asked them to book me in but when i turned up the next week they hadn't on the last week the horse i was meant to be riding was still in the field so i got put on another horse that was lame but they said to just keep riding it... i mean what person makes you ride a lame horse... they will obviously be in pain.
I think they all need to buck up there idea's down there!

The horses at redish vale riding school are looked after very well and the stable yarn is tidy, the stables are big but the only problems was that i said to them and kept saying a was a better beiginer in my old riding school. most of the leaders are nice and freindy but the one i had on my first walkout there was rubbish he did'nt even say anything to me and he did'nt do my stirrup irons right.the other thing is that i think the horses a over worked and they give you massive horses.

“I rode horses when I was younger so when my 6 year old...”

★★★★★

written by Berniebo on 06/11/2009

I rode horses when I was younger so when my 6 year old daughter showed an interest decided to take her along for one of their beginner walk outs. My daughter love animals and was very excited when she got on Rusty - but as soon as he shook his head she cried and wanted to get off - the staff were FANTASTIC especially the young girl who was leading her, Hayley. They calmed her down and did not give up (checking with me that it was ok to do this of course) Megan has now been going for around 6 weeks and really enjoys it - horses well looked after, staff brilliant, body armour provided, my daughter is already planning her birthday party there for next April! I also found out they do 1-2-1 adult lessons and will be giving them a try myself - will report back on this when I have been a few times. If you are thinking of trying a riding school try this one you will not be disappointed!
