“Do Not Buy”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Beezo72 on 28/11/2023

Space Kitchens came cold calling at the door, they came with strategies to convince you to buy the kitchen and had packs of stuff like door handles to choose from and type of counter and glass. We went ahead and it was the biggest mistake ever, cost us 16000 pounds. They came and done the job said will take a week but ended up nearly three and when they left the work was shabby and doors were not screwed properly and basically was falling apart. They left a terrible mess on our property and charged us an extortionate amount of money for absolute rubbish, most of the kitchen was not what we ordered and handles were the wrong type….. can go on and on but what’s the point lost 16000 pounds, customer services did not want to know when we contacted them and they still haven’t rectified the mess.

“We bought a kitchen for 10k in 2006. It was supposed...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dalek0312 on 13/07/2019

We bought a kitchen for 10k in 2006. It was supposed to be fitted in 3 days. It was 3 weeks before the gas was connected due to a damaged oven being delivered. We went without an oven for this period. The workman who fitted the kitchen was not a space kitchens employee as we were told we would get. He was a local contractor and told us he could have obtained an identical kitchen from B&Q and fitted it for less than 3K. In 2018 we removed the fitted fridge to replace it with a free standing one. What I found, shocked me. Exposed wires were coming out of one wall and into another wall. They couldn't even run it inside the plaster board. And two large holes in the plasterboard. I have also had to remove and reinstall a high cupboard because it was falling off the wall. The reason for this was that incorrectly rated fittings had been used. Absolutely disgraceful and unsafe workmanship. Avoid like the plague.

“worst 'thing' I've ever purchased”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hollis65 on 17/11/2017

'Space Kitchens - the ones that can pay for themselves'. Big mistake agreeing to let sale rep into my house to quote for a new kitchen. He was in my house for over 4 hours supposedly designing a bespoke kitchen. This was followed by the hard sell and denigration of all other rivals (Magnet etc). Informed me that the quality was next to none and the sample he showed me didn't look too bad. When the kitchen was delivered it became clear that much of the bespoke work would be done on site by what turned out to be the worst kitchen installer you could imagine. He even fixed one of the cupboards to the back door frame. When I held back the balance of money due I was harassed for weeks by someone who sounded like he had relatives in the Mafia. Needless to say he eventually turned up at my house and wormed his way in. I showed him the things that I was extremely unhappy about and he agreed to get these put right if I paid off half the balance. I did this and the guys idea of putting things right was to get replacement parts sent to my address for me to fit myself. Needless to say the kitchen began falling apart slowly over the next few years and the built in appliances (Teka) had to be replaced within two years. If this company is still trading I would warn anyone not to fall for the hard sell. Better still don't approach them for a quote.

“THEY HAVE GONE BUST!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SandJuggler on 25/02/2015

Fortunately this outfit have gone just bust. I had dealings with them in 2001/2 and every negative review here rings true with me. The salesman came late, stayed till midnight and was pressuring us to take the special offer that just had to be signed off on that day/night. We were offered very low credit terms which clinched the deal. To be honest, we were so tired by then we signed when we should have taken a breather. When the paperwork finally arrived we found that the credit terms APR had been changed and was much higher than we had signed against. When we called the head office a very rude woman rubbished our complaints and said that my 'foreign wife' must have misunderstood what the salesman had said. I took the matter to our excellent local Trading Standards and they got our deposit back (after long delays caused by Space Kitchens and dodgy cheques). We did, however, have to collect the cheque in person from them as previous ones were 'lost in the post'! My (now ex-) partner appeared on a Channel 5 Tv show about rogue builders/traders that interviewed her and then pranked a sales rep from Space Kitchens. Anyway, the crappy outfit are in administration now and with luck that will be the end of them. I never saw the end product so i can't comment on the actual quality of the kitchens but I am not surprised to read that they were shoddy. I wish the owners nothing but misery.

written by Mohammad1953 on 08/01/2015

A salesman came out and said the price we were quoted was only that price for that day... My self and now husband being only 21 at the time and excited signed the paper with the agreement being we could change our minds within 7 days... Tried to cancel and they took 4x £400 Payments out of our account. No kitchen and the bank couldn't help as we had given our details. Solicitor clawed some £££ back but we were still £800 down and the solicitor took his fee out if the £400 cheque we had back!! Total rip offs and very unprofessional

We had our kitchen fitted by space kitchens and it came with a duel fuel range cooker, we have just had to get a new range as the old one is in its last legs, the gas fitter came today to fit new cooker, but he couldn't as the electric part of the cooker has not been properly earthed or connected to the fuse box,it is just plugged in to an extension, which looks like it has been burning through, I now have to pay for an electrician to come and sort this out before the gas can be connected and the cooker finally fitted, to quote the gas fitter its a wonder my house hasn't burnt down.

“Avoid at any cost,Dont hate all salesmen.”

Hi, I use to work for Space kitchens as salesman in maidstone kent.Job market was at its worse at that time and i couldnt find a job.eventually i was offered kitchen designer role with space kitchen which sounded promising and was glad to have a job once again.it all seemed good until i was sent out to somebody's house as a trainee with a senior kitchen designer/salesman who happened to be our bosses nephew.i realized there and then what it was all about.Uncle and nephew seemed as if they were born to do this to peoplewhereas i would rather starve to death. One thing I will point out. Please Please dont hate the salesmen especially if he is a young lad trying hard but holding back, shy kind of person(me).I was at college, living away and had an empty fridge.never claimed any benefits and dont plan to ever. Some people do it due to there difficult circumstances. So if you are expecting one because somebody talked you into booking an appointment,go easy on Salesman,,, Unless its one of those dodgy one's and trust me you would know. In the end,British people have a lot of patience and were nice.Whatever you do in the end,Dont buy anything from space kitchens especially on finance.

“space kitchen disaster”

written by on 19/07/2012

We were talked into buying a kitchen from space kitchens and also having a window fitted.the kitchen was duly fitted and i had to chase round Britian for two months to find my window.it was fitted by Weatherseal. When the guarantee came it was a little piece of paper and our name and address was handwritten by a two year old and probably just as useless.

Space Kitchens are just a total cowboy outfit. Their Designer's that come out to your house don't have a clue, they talk down other companie's making comparisons to why they are far superior and try to justify why their kitchens are far superior quality. Even when you decide to cancel within the 7 day distance selling rules which anyone is entitled to they then telephone you up and try to enforce the sale. They use underhand tactics such as the kitchen was made to measure when they are infact just flat packs.

I was duped into buying a kitchen and I am now in the process of replacing it. The quality is very poor flat packed mdf. I was told that my kitchen would be individually made. Furthermore, the person who installed the kitchen should never have been allowed anywhere near a kitchen. He fixed one of the wall units by screwing into the architrive round my back door. Anyone considering buying a kitchen from these con merchants should seriously think again. Phil (Birmingham)

written by meckerliese on 26/05/2012

bought a kitchen in 2005 and am very happy with my kitchen-design is exactly how I wanted it.The sales person knew what I was looking for in the kitchen. I exchanged some of the standard appliances which the company offers for top of the range appliances from different companies ( took some time to shop around but was worth every single minute) I wanted a kitchen that lasts for ever .Every visitor I get admires my kitchen. The fitters were absolutely fantastic and I can still call them to do jobs for family and friends after all this time.Reading all the negative reviews I must be the only happy customer. The only negative thing I can say about the company is that they only had a little office in a big office building without any signs and not a show room in the area and the sales person was a bit pushy to make a sale but it was to my advantage.

I've just had the built in gas oven removed and found the shelf it sat on had burnt an enormous hole in it. How my house wasn't burned down god only knows. The heat that must have been generated turned most of the shelf into charcoal. How the gas pipe didn't melt and explode is a miracle. Also they had not fed the plug and lead through a hole. Which now I'll have to do to fit my new oven. The wiring was found to be dangerous and they had just fitted the unit with it trapped behind. I've had this kitchen for 11 years work surfaces have warped, there are loads of places where the laminate has come away from draws and doors. It looks very shabby now for a kitchen that cost £8000. The door on the fridge hangs very badly. I had to have them out early on when found they had put the fridge and freezer plugs where you couldn't get to them. All in all a bunch of cowboys who I would only recommend to my worst enemy. Also I'm lucky to be alive!!!! Do not under any circumstances buy from them. Oh I forgot slay the freezer stopped working and they wouldnt refund the full amount of food lost. Stay away from them stay away!!!!!!!!

This company rips everyone off, even there own staff. The cold calling sales team who make the calls to get what they "Bites" like fishing are all self employed. They probably get what is the equivalent of the minimum wage.

But heres the crunch, out of that minimum wage they have to pay the company for the use of the company telephones, and the desk (workstation) they sit at. The desks are falling apart and the chairs they sit on are ripped to shreds, Even the telephones have dodgy wiring and some are even held together with selotape.

I went for a job interview there once where It almost seemed like I had got the job before the interview started.

They also encourage the staff to exercise income tax evasion by implying that the rules of self employent mean you dont actually have to register yourself as self employed for three months after you start. In other words work for us for three months and say nothing. Most of the employees there are on benefits. I was told this whilst getting to know some of the other employees.

Anyway I started the training and quickly worked out how much of a shoddy outfit this company is some of the methods the sales supervisors use to motivate theyre staff to get "a bite" is kindergarden stuff. an example of this is. All the staff in the call centre were made to stand up and they could only sit down again until they had a bite..

Needless to say I didnt stand up. I got a real funny look off the supervisor when I didnt. But I suppose me being at least 10 years older than her compared to most of the other staff mainly teenagers and people in their twenties I guess she had second thoughts about making an issue out of it.

Cut a long story short, Im surprised I made it to the first tea break. I walked straight past the staff room picked my coat up and walked out.
But Hey if your claiming benefits nd you wanna earn a LITTLE extra cash for xmas on the quiet then this is the job for you. If you have a concience and dont like lying to people then im afraid its not

I gave it a chance

“Claim under Space kitchens guarantee”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 24/01/2012

I was pressured into having a space kitchen installed 5yrs ago and had very similar experiences that all the other customers wrote about in their reviews. I replaced the built in fridge-freezer and dishwasher 2yrs after installation and now the cupboard fronts are all worn and warped and the kickboards are the same. I paid £8000 for this kitchen and expected it to look good for much longer than 5yrs. I am now trying to make a claim but have been asked to fill out a claim form and forward £90 for a call out charge. This seems a little unfair and what guarantee do i have of getting the work done. Has anyone else experienced the same and can I trust them.

I installed a kitchen from Space Kitchens and although I was initially quite pleased at the design and ordering stage, the service seemed to fall apart after they had my money. The fitter was sub contracted and no accoountability given by the company. He made an awful mess with masonry left behind the kickboards, electrics and plastering was abysmal. The interior shelving of the cupboards is shoddily fitted and falls apart with the slightest provocation. The sink waste was never properly sealed, worktops have since bubbled at the join and the clock onTeka oven zeroed itself after a power cut. Web searches revealed that this is a fault with the product and although easily remedied, I have to pay £40 call out charge to have an engineer reset it since it is now outwith the year warranty. All in all a disappointing purchase of over £8,000 which I look at every day and weep.

Did you ever manage to sort out your kitchen?
We had ours fitted in 2010 and they estimated a 4 day installation which ended up been 7 days. The project manager was ignorant and we never saw him after day 1. The design that they were working from didn't work and as they were pressured for time, they weren't willing to alter. After a few months we had a problem with the dishwasher and Neff said it was fitted too tight, I rang Space Kitchens and they were out within 2 hours and had moved the unit - couldn't believe it what great service.... 18 months on, it hasn't been moved enough. Neff have been out 3 times and now say they dishwasher is flexing when hot as it is tight in the unit and is letting steam out of the top and warping the door. The kitchen tap has been leaking badly for days and so I have rang to ask for a repair over a week ago and was told a form was in the post. No form arrived so I rang again to be told it was Royal Mails fault - which I don't believe and another would be put in the post. They will not come out until the form is returned and the £90 fee paid and will not do business over the phone, so I am left with no alternative but to buy a new tap and get a plumber in, but don't know what to do about the dishwasher door as I feel it is Space Kitchens responsibilty but have no faith in the organisation at all.

“Space kitchens are the biggest con out”

written by maggielynne on 11/01/2012

Was brain washed into purchasing a space kithchen in 2003, the rep was still in our house at 2am. Paid £6000 for some cupboards and a work top and NO electrical goods. It then cost me another £1500 to pay off the loan and get out of the HP agreement, stay away from 1st Nat Bank aswell. I have had neumerous calls over the years offering another new kitchen but never been able to obtain a guaranteecfor the rubbish I have already got, now the cupboard doors are begining to crumble and fall off of the hinges. my very expensive "top of the range kitchen" is in fact made of MDF or LDF if there is such a thing. As I have been unable to locate replacement doors it looks as if I will have to replace all of the cupboard fronts. B&Q here I come, at least I know what I am getting and I can get some response if I have any problems!!!!!!!!!!!!

Terrible service (repetitive breakdown of kitchen appliances - protracted resolution of issue).

Refusal to fulfill contractual obligations. Having agreed on purchase price with SP official and signed of on contract, was subsequently told by a senior official of company that they were not prepared to deliver at the contractually agreed price.

Ended up having to offer an extra £500 (they wanted considerably more) or being left high and dry at Christmas time. Suing the company for non-fulfillment of contractual obligation would, of course, have cost time and money. Effectively held to ransom.

Not impressed.
