This Ironically Bright-spirited, Completely Unsusp
This ironically bright-spirited, completely unsuspecting song brings you full circle from the simple solo guitar introduction to the heavy metal instrumentals of modern alternative rock. This quirky and unusual style, now characteristic of Panic! At The Disco, is illustrated brilliantly in this melody describing an almost comedic situation of a groom discovering that his wife-to-be is less than worthy of his devotion on the very day of their wedding. To make matters worse, he discovers this truth inadvertently from members of his own wedding assembly; and apparently he has been in the very position once before. The groom, despite his disappointment and anger, decides to handle the matter rationally and it is implied that the wedding is foregone.
This is the first single released from the band's debut album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (2005) and has managed to place in the top ten of at least three Rock singles charts, including the U. S. Billboard Pop 100 (#4) and U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (#7). The song was first released in February of 2006, but because of a UK Singles Chart rule technicality, the song could not have been ranked upon its initial release. However, due to its immense popularity, and success of the other released singles "But It's Better If You Do" and "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" on the said Chart, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" was re-released in October 2006.
The song was written by Ryan Ross and Brendon Urie and produced by Matt Squire for the Decaydence/Fueled by Ramen record label (2005).
