The Essex AEP166VS is one of the best guitars for its price. Although you can't replace the fret board which would cost you the price of this guitar anyways. It is very much on par with others above its price range.
I've been playing on and off for over 20 years. When money is tight and it's been a while since I lost my last favourite guitar at the Pawn Brokers I'll usually pick up a NEW SX guitar as opposed to a negleted secondhand one (Most bargins worth getting will still cost more than a new Budget SX).
The best thing about a lot of SX guitars is the ease at which those of us with smaller hands can get to those hard to reach cords. I like playing Tommy Emmanuel style and can do so with this guitar.
It's perfect for beginners and makes a great throw around guitar that sounds great. If you want extra volume just plug it in to an amp and there you have it. I've put more dints into the fretboards of more expensive guitars well before I have this one.
Remember we're talking about a cheap guitar here, if you want to get real fussy just go buy a Maton or Martin. All in all you can get this one NOW, you wont worry about little scratches, you'll probably play it more often and no-one will believe you when you tell them how cheap it is.
