I bought it 6 years a go, and used it daily. Totally happy with it. Back in 2008 HDD brak down, but is was fixed under warrenty and since than I'm totally happy. In these days system is too week and it is hard to get any support to upgreade it. Laptop is really small, compact - perfect on traveling, but no posibelity on improvemence in performance. Battery give up a year a go, but it is easy to get replacement. It has served me really good for last 6 years. Needed new driver for SD card reader to accept HCSD, but it is all done too. Thank you Philips and I will consider Philips again when I will be looking for a new Laptop.

I have studied engineering. I have known and built my own pc's in the past. I have this philips x52 for a long time. more than 2 years.
Lets put things straight. I went to the navy. I took it with me. I dropped it, i got a hole in the side. I have been using it daily for hours. Pushing it's limits daily...
Yes some keys gave up, after dropping it again, i unscrewed the top and fixed the connector of the keyboard so there was no loose connection.
This little guy, has been running strong all this time. Fast enough not to ever annoy me with any of my actions.
With holes on the side, overused buttong , overheating on the bottom. Sure.. expected from many laptops after such an extensive usage..
But it never gave up. It never failed for me.
As everyone said, the only problem is the battery. After approx 1 year and half, it starting dying. 2 days ago, it decided to give up completely.
If you take it off the power, it dies in 1 sec.
So if there is an option to get a battery out there.. I will go get it..
I certainly can say.. I have served in the navy and this little guy has served me well throughout.!!!

You can get replacement batteries Google Twinheads h12y.
Mouse pad replaced several times and now worn through again, it is very frustrating to use, I always plug in a mouse, screen backlight card had to be replaced.
Its a shame that a neat light weight machine should be so badly built.
Philips support for these machines is non-existant you have to search for Twinheads who "built" these laptops.

The keyboard is terrib########le and there are many electrical# faults. my hash ##############key is #########################too sensitive and always put######################s hashes in my work randomly, and the backspace also makes hashes, so i have to delete ### my work and st###########art again! # I woul#d never buy a P~hil#ips l#ap######to#p a#gain, and I ###################would wa############################r#n my########################'friends against it.

The main problem is that philips don't make replacement batteries for this laptop. You can't source them anywhere. Philips are obviously bargaining on people upgrading the whole machine when the battery dies. Bunch of see you text tuesdays.

This laptop was very expensive new. But Philips never thought to make replacement batteries. Even specialist computer shops can't source them. One shop tried to sell me a second hand battery that only lasted 15mins for £60! The cheek of it.
DONT BUY PHILIPS. Unless you can afford to bin your computer every 2 years.

Had my Philips X52 nearly 4 years. Had some trouble 2 years ago with keyboard, where some letters had to be retyped because the keys didn't work, BUT as have written several essays and a Masters thesis on it (plus millions of draft copies) must say that it has been worth the money. Okay, the mouse pad is worn, but hey I bought it to work on not to look at! Unfortunately the battery is dying, but I can use the power cable instead.

We have one of the very original Freevents laptops, the H12Y and it is a very good machine - EXCEPT - we can't get a replacement battery. ACcording to Philips master supplier it is OBSOLETE.
So, if you want a great machine that you may have to throw away after 3 years because you can't get a battery, then you've got a great machine.
Personnaly I'm never going to buy a philips again. However, if anyone knows how to get a new battery ..... I'd like to know.

The only thing good about this Philips Freevents x52 laptop is the appearance... although the mouse pad wore off within a matter of weeks... taken back to PC WORLD twice but they refuse to fix it. Don't buy this...it overheats quickly, mouse pad is rubbish, parts are ridiculously expensive...I can honestly say it is th worse thing I have ever bought! I have a key board with lttrs and numbers that do not work (I hav to cut and paste 'e's), battery is dead, mouse pad bad... buy a laptop made by a company that specialises in laptops!

I have had this 3 years now. Have had one failure. but that was my wifes fault she dropped it. Hard drive gave up. Apart from that i have not had one problem with it. So i would say it has been a good investment. i liked it so much i bought the newer version whilst other one was being prepaired. Big mistake. have had that less than a year and already had new battery and 2 new mother boards.

Though expensive, this wee laptop is a cutie, easy to transport lightweight.. and generally works very well. Screen is small but gives good quality. Just a lovley wee small laptop. Lovely wee laptop, does everything you need it too do, not good for gaming with two 1.6ghz proccesors... but great for wireless internet and most other media entertainment....
Small and cute... but would not recommend... for price.

This has been a great little laptop. The size is great. I bought it new two years ago and treated it very carefully. This week the motherboard simply died on me. Data retrieved from hard disk but new motherboard would cost me around £350. I paid £800 for the laptop two years ago. I'm stuffed. £400 per year usage is expensive. I will not purchase a Philips brand laptop again.

Keypad wears off, scroll on mouse failed to work after a year and battery power quickly declined even though everything was done to prevent this happening.
Good laptop for general use but if used all day every day the silver covering wears off and battery power runs down to nothing. Therefore I do not recommend Philips Freevents x52 laptop.

What a laptop was meant to be, well recommend Philips Freevents x52.

I have always rated Toshiba best, but tried a Sony Vaio after 3 Tecras. Wish I hadn't but perhaps I wouldn't have discovered the Freevents X52!.
Philips -F You have a winner here, why don't you get behind it?

I've worked my way through Toshiba's, Sony's and a Acer Ferrari (wicked looks, but so heavy to lug around). I thought about a notebook, but they are all so overpriced - except the Philips Freevents x52! It was around £750 from memory, and it's the best business tool I've used for a long time. Last week I did a load of accounts and then watched a DVD on the Paddington - Truro train, and the battery petered out after just short of 4 hours - way different to larger machines, which claim one thing and then run out of juice an hour and a bit later. The wireless locks onto signals far better than my Acer. The screen is just great. It's so light I don't know I'm carrying it (unlike any other laptop), and it's so compact it slips into hand luggage or sits on communal desks/tables without causing any nuisance. Runs all the applications I've put on it at the same speed of more highly speced machines. Looks good and neat, and it's easy to use. No probs, except when I dropped it off the kitchen worktop - the case survived, but the keyboard packed up (cable dislodged). It was fixed in a couple of days under guarantee by courier. If it came with a dedicated case it would be perfect. The computer equivalent of my Elise (Colin Chapman's dictum: Add lightness), fast, lean and everything you need with everything you don't left out.
