Gordon Setters Are Excellent Dogs. Highly Intelli

Gordon Setters are excellent dogs. Highly intelligent and extremely gentle, perfect for a family. They do require grooming and some care but it's worth it for the love and loyalty they return. They are also protective of their masters and a good hunting dog.

A gorgeous looking animal as well, I grew up with one of these and she passed away after 15 years and was the nicest dog I've owned. Much prefer the Gordon Irish Red Setters to the English variety, more intelligence.

Don't tar all English Setters with the same brush! You just need to know how to connect with them. I walk with mine into the middle of nowhere, get lost and she always finds our way home! Once you understand each other, you can train them to do anything other breeds can do.

The Irish/Red setter is a separate breed to the Gordon Setter. Gordon Setters are easily identified by being black and tan (not red), and the largest of all Setters.

The Gordon Setter Requires Consistent And Gentle H

The Gordon Setter requires consistent and gentle handling. Generally work best with a positive reward training system e.g. clicker training. Setters generally can be ruined by rough handling due to their sensitive nature. They are very happy to please, and love to be rewarded.

Expressive, lively personality. Good with children (but sometimes a little too excited for youngsters). Very intelligent, beautiful dogs with masses of energy and character. Always game for a play and more exercise. Wonderful companions, and very loyal (except when there's a bird to chase - all thought goes out the window) and happy dogs (especially when there's a bird to chase).

In common with many deep chested dogs, the Gordon Setter must not be fed before of after exercising to avoid gastric torsion. Requires daily grooming, and regular clipping of hair around paws and at the backs of the legs (particularly in the winter when they are susceptible to gathering snow balls!). Requires moderate exercise, and although intelligent, the Gordon Setter is not always biddable - they tend to get carried away, especially if chasing a bird or scent.

I am truly delighted that this Review has been awarded 'Expert' status. With the clever use of adjectives and a very concise professional style of writing (like here) volume is often unnecessary.
