Bernese Mountain Dog

I am currently enjoying my third Bernese. She is a beautiful three year old.

If you want a family dog that is truly a part of the family, is loyal, affectionate and protective then this is the breed for you. They are big dogs though and need a fair bit of room. They do not require long walks just lots of short regular ones.

Bernese are fairly easy to train but can be quite stubborn. They are good with children, very patient. They are people dogs and want to be where ever you are - they are not the kind of dog to be left home alone as they will get distressed.

The only problem I have had with all three is their exuberant way of welcoming guests - not everyone appreciates a very large dog jumping up to welcome them when they enter!

If you own a Bernese you have a very loyal, loveable friend and I can guarantee you will want another. The only downside is that their life expectancy is relatively short - approx 9 years and they are prone to joint problems as they get older due to their size.

What lovely animals Bernese Mountain Dogs are, so soft and loveable. Perfect for a family, as although they are very docile with children, they are also protective of them. They are known to have joint problems when older due to size and weight.
