“Better than you think it's going to be.”

I inherited my dad's 2007 Urban Fox 1.4 and have been driving it around while I try to sell it (I already have three cars) I have owned a new Polo and a Lupo, also a Golf so am familiar with VW cars. The Fox was clearly designed as a budget car and the interior is a bit low rent, it's all hard, cheap plastic. The door panels are appalling, the interior handle is not even three sided, the underside is open so it feels cheap and flexible. However the car drives well and the gearchange is superb. The instrument console is fairly cute and the car has some surprising features for a budget car, such as height adjustable drivers seat, reach/rake adjustable steering wheel, intermittent rear wiper and rev counter. The car feels better to drive than some reviews would have you believe, it's not far off a Polo really. Although the interior panels scratch easily the feel fairly durable and it does not feel like it will fall apart after a few years. It would make an ideal first car as it is in almost the lowest insurance group. But if you are buying one, go for the "Urban" specification as I looked at the base model and it does without electric windows, central locking, opening rear windows so is a bit desperate to be honest.

“1.4 engine has plenty of power. The quality is a cut...”

1.4 engine has plenty of power. The quality is a cut above, especially against rivals like the Toyota Aygo and it is comfortable. The gearbox is good, direct and easy to use which makes it fun to drive. I chose the honeycomb cloth over the deckchair stripes and got it in uranium grey, which sounds dull, but looks great and doesn't show dirt. I had my Fox in 8 days! I have found my Fox to be practical, spacious and well put together. There's loads of space in the back for passengers which before the test drive I didn't expect. The 1.4 engine is strong, refined and can easily cope with motorways, without being noisy. It's quiet inside although sometimes a bit of wind noise can be heard, but not to so loud that it's really noticeable. It's also cheap to run. The equipment levels are good in the Urban Fox, although some options are expensive i.e. air-con £945.00! However I love my Fox. I've had no problems and would recommend it to anyone after a small car for everyday use. Its great value for money, especially for a Volkswagen!
