“Far From Friendly!!!!”

Ran by arrogant, miserable owners who treat customers with disdain. A wholly unfortunate approach to customer service. Note also, the lack of official caravan club or similar membership. Avoid. Spend your money elsewhere

“Friendly caravan park”

★★★★☆

written by MargaretRos on 22/08/2013

I have had my caravan at Heads of Ayr for the full season this year and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The toilets are cleaned thoroughly every morning, the staff is a pleasure to talk to, the kids play area is a bit noisy but so what they are doing no harm, it is good to see children out playing. It is a small site and very friendly what else can you ask for

“Do not even think about camping”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gmcconnell on 04/08/2013

The camping area is horrific. You are literally camping in a kids play park and the noise is awful. The site staff are no where to be seen and you effectively either have to put with constant noise or police the area yourself. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT CAMPING UNLESS YOU LOVE THE NOISE OF OTHER PEOPLE'S OUT OF CONTROL KIDS.

Furthermore, the condition of the male toilets is unbelievable. None of the (three) male toilets appear to flush, all (three) showers are ice cold and only one of the four hand soap dispensers have any soap. This is by far the WORST campsite I have ever stayed on.

“Enjoyable time”

★★★★☆

written by on 21/08/2012

We stayed in one of the few static caravans that are available at Heads of Ayr Caravan Park. It was clean and comfortable and we have no complaints except that there was no available parking beside the caravan which meant a short walk to an allocated place just opposite the shop. This was fine so long as it wasn't raining and as we were lucky with the weather it didn't cause too much of a problem. As we didn't use any of the other facilities I can't comment on them. I did find the lady who worked in the shop and the gentleman owner to be both friendly and helpful. It was very convenient to Culzean Castle and the journey into Ayr wasn't too long. There is a bus that goes from the end of the lane which is handy for those who didn't want to take the car. The caravan park was nice and quiet and perfect for us and the children. A bit more noise at the weekend but still nothing to complain about. The shop just provided very basic things so we usually bought anything needed in Ayr in one of the big supermarkets. We would have no hesitation in returning.

“Terrible service and rude attitude”

★☆☆☆☆

written by gemward on 28/05/2012

I emailed a booking request to the campsite which fully explained the composition of our group and when we wanted to stay. I received a reply that said they had space for us for the two night stay and that I should call to confirm the booking. When I called I was told that someone would get back to me on Monday morning first thing. I had heard nothing by after 11am so called to follow up. I spoke to a very rude women who abruptly said they didn't take groups. I tried to explain that we were basically two families split into 4 tents but could share two tents if necessary but she refused to discuss.I wouldn't go near the place!

“Friendly atmosphere, easily accessed, clean and lots...”

★★★★☆

I decided to visit Heads of Ayr caravan park as it is was an easy site to get to by train and bus. On arriving the bus stopped right outside the park so it was an easy 2 minute walk down the path which was great as our bags were pretty heavy. We stopped in at the shop to meet the guy who seemed friendly and welcoming, he showed us to our tent pitch which was clean and spacious. However on seeing the pitch we discovered that it was right beside the children's play park, but the noise was little and did not go on past 9pm at night. The toilets were clean and fresh with three showers which all had a good flow of hot water, however if you decide to go for a shower I wouldn't leave it past 8/9pm as the hot water runs out, this problem was also found in the washing dishes area. The shop supplied basic things such as; milk, bread, bacon and a selection of tins aswell as pick n mix for the kiddies, but for the main shopping you would need to visit Ayr which is only a ten minute bus journey away on the 361. The campsite owners do not really allow groups of youths to stay unacompanied so the site is mostly very peaceful and quiet, however the bar is open till 11:30pm, but from where I was staying in the tent area the noise couldn't be heard. I cannot think of really anything I didn't like about the caravan park, but if you do decide to go I would't recommend arriving after 5pm as the shop is closed. Overall a really good week and a very enjoyable stay. Would recommend to families with younger children because of the great park and the farm park :) And for the adults because of the good shopping (with some very nice restaurants) in Ayr and Culzean castle.

Overall, it was ok but I felt the staff we dealt with needed to be a bit more helpful and not take your custom for granted.

I disagree with this review because...I don't think it's possible to stay here for any longer than 24 hours!

“We called Heads of Ayr in advance to book, and she...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lawrenma2 on 11/05/2006

We called Heads of Ayr in advance to book, and she said there was no need as they were quiet at the moment, and we explained that we would arrive Friday night after work.

We arrived at the campsite to find the office was closed, but a helpful lady in the bar showed me where to pitch the tent, and where the toilets were (fortunately). She told me the office shut at 5pm, and to check in the following morning.

After the initial shock of finding that the pitch for tents was in a kids play park, we decided to go to the restaurant for some food, to be told that the restaurant would be closed until further notice, and we were invited to purchase a packet of peanuts as an alternative. When I called to book I should have been made aware of this!

Also, the Electric hook-up was tied up with tape.

Both the toilets in the bar area and camp area do not have any soap, and my good lady pointed out that there were no sanitation bins in either of the toilets. The shower facilities were less than hygienic with cigarette butt marks, and spiders webs around the toilet doors.

The following day I went to check-in at the shop / office and thought I'd pick up some food, to find they had a very limited selection, and the shop was really only good for rolls and newspapers.

My fianc e became very upset at this point, and at the so-called 4 star rating it has been given. I complained about all of the points listed above, and told them I didn't feel I should pay for the less than poor service. Rather than the lady listening to my points or an apology, she was rather dismissive and told me to "just go".

I know I sound like Victor Meldrew, and it really isn't my nature to complain, as I'm not a snob and didn't expect Buckingham Palace, but I did expect some sort of standard.
