“Turned my hair into straw and the color is inky & stinky”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Renee28 on 17/12/2023

This dye is atrocious! I used it twice and the color is way too saturated--it has an ink like effect and it smells dreadful. I could taste the product in my throat! It destroyed my hair. It looked like straw. I used 6C which is a dark ash blonde and my hair is very brassy but at the same time it looks very coated-like ink when it drips on paper. This stuff has a horrid outcome! I had to have the damage cut off and the color corrected. They need to divulge what's in this product because it burned going on and it smells really weird.

“First time use”

★★★★☆

written by on 03/06/2022

My hair is quite long and always has been very healthy. It's for the first time I used natural hair colour in form of Herbatint. I noticed how it makes the hair feel different to conventional hair dyes and takes a week of two to feel soft again. It's been 5 weeks since I coloured my hair with this product. I'm happy with the colour and product and also had many positive comments from friends. I'm very pleased with Herbatint and will use it again.

“Omg this is trash”

written by Davidt1987 on 22/04/2022

This dye damaged my hair so bad. The tangles and matted hair is severe . I regret using this garbage. I am so upset and i wish i could sue. I emailed them more than once. I get 0 replies. What kind of company is this?? My hair is brittle and breaking off. Hair masks do not help. I cut almost 3 inches off . It is still a mess. Dryness is insane. Never have i tried a dye this bad in my life. Even 3 dollar dye is a million times better. I have to used huge amounts of detanglers and leave in conditioner. Idk what to do. This company needs to stop selling this garbage dye. On their site they claim their dye is not damaging but it is not true. Why are they not truthful??rubbish they are!! So angry

“Awful junk”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kaleyo58 on 14/08/2021

Used it for years it was fine. Then i used it last year and i can not comb my hair or brush it. Used lots of hair masks, conditioner, coconut oil. Nothing helps. So dry and brittle. My long hair is now a lob. I had to chop it off. Still looks like trashy garbage. The company needs to take their complaints seriously. They don't care. So many women have damaged hair now. It is embarrassing. Depressing as well. Looks like i used a cheap dollar store dye. I am mad.

“Horrible”

written by 176Johnston on 09/03/2018

After having my hair highlighted for many years professionally. I decided to try Herbatint. I used it as directed. After 5 weeks my hair has fallen out in massive amounts. I called them, no help, nothing. Something in this product is dangerous, stay away! It is a horrible experience.

“causes hair fall out”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bewareofherbatint on 16/08/2017

Do Not use this hair color! The color looked great, however, shortly within a week of using herbatint my hair started falling out and has continued for a month now and I do not know what to do. The use of this hair color is all that coincides with hair fall out.It is not just a small amount. Every time I brush my hair, wash my hair, my brush or wide toothed comb is full of hair! I have used Loreal hair color for years with no problems and it had been 3 months since I had colored my hair. Therefore, no interactions.

I used Herbatint Herbal Hair Colour in violet about 4 weeks ago and straight away my hair began falling out. It's still coming out in huge amounts, I'd estimate I've lost about 1/3 so far. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!!!

I love the longlasting colour I achieve (light chestnut) with herbatint but I also notice a patch of my hair also feels and looks burnt and dry. Really don't know if this product is the cause, just noticed another review I read had the same problem. I've been using this product for about a year now. How could this be if this is a natural product?

“I used this Herbatint Dye for 2 years”

★★★★★

written by on 03/12/2013

I am on transplant drugs and have very fine hair. Herbatint uses no ammonia and leaves my hair beautiful and full of shine. The colors are very true and long lasting and covers every bit of my gray. It must be doing a great job because people are always asking me who does my hair. I would highly recommend this product. From Connecticut

written by fernande1 on 26/10/2013

I had a bad allergic reaction to this product. Ended up at the ER. My head, face, neck and my throat were all swelled up. It cost me over $200. in prescriptions (including an epipen). No I would not reocomend this to anyone with any kind of allergies. To this day I still don't know what was in the product that I reacted to. However after my reaction my hair looked nice for about 2 months. I have decided not to try any more products as suggested by both my doctor and pharmacist.

“stay away - my hair are extremely dried out after...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 31/07/2013

OK, first I chose the color dark golden blonde (my hair is natural chestnut). And honestly it did nothing to my old hair color, it stayed just the same as it was before, plus extra surprise: my hair got completely dried out, like burned! I was expecting a gentle treatment from the natural product that's why I bought it.... none of the "nasty" chemical dies I used before has ever caused my hair to look as terrible... I can't comb them anymore, there's stiff and dry :( the damage is awful and the color effect is none! stay away!

I TOTALLY agree. I had the exact reaction and this was AFTER calling customer service three times because I wanted to get it "right". I was instructed to use yogurt to "bleach" out some of the color and then go a shade lighter. A weeke later I am darker brownt than my own color using a "Golden Blonde" color. Their blondes are BROWN!!!! And the beautiful blonde highlights I had are gone AND my long hair is in terrible shape, plus I made the mistake of buying in bulk. RUN, RUN, RUN away from this product!!!!!

“did not cover my grey hairs!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 26/10/2012

I followed the directions, used an "N" etc. But it did not properly cover the grey hairs. I'm so disappointed. I've put a damaging product on my hair for nothing. (It may be gentler than most, but it still causes damage to hair) :(

“What a Find”

★★★★★

written by RunningMom on 07/09/2012

I discovered Herbatint as I asked which was the best selling hair colour brand in France as the women always look good My natural colour is Chesnut but I'd been Extra Light Ash Blonde then Ash Blonde in the summer and it looked dull, lack lustre and I'd been advised to use Ash as I have red tones in my hair. Today it arrived from Amazon 7D Golden Blonde, does say colour will change at end of process- i was a bit shocked as when i mixed it it was a henna orange colour. Trusting the reviews I did it and waited only 10 minutes and the result is AMAZING !! It's so soft, the colour is beautiful and no horrible smells. Well done Herbatin I will be loyal to you from now on Good Job !!

Did it bring out the red tones in your hair though? I used a 7N ash I think and it really brought out my red tones, I was so disappointed.

“Wonderful hair colourant!”

★★★★★

written by on 17/11/2011

Fed up with my heavily highlighted and very blonde hair (not to mention over processed) I decided I needed to opt for a more simple and gentle colouring regime. I have always loved red hair but thought there was no way I could go from bleach blonde to red at home - how wrong I was. Herbatint was recommended to me by a friend and as per her suggestion I contacted them to ask for advice. After a couple of conversations/emails and assurances I would be fine to use the colour (but with emphasis on doing a strand test first) I decided to go for it. I chose FF1 Henna Red and 6N Blonde. I mixed 10 ml of the blonde with the red and hey presto, 40 mins later I was left with perfectly coloured and very beautiful red hair. No frazzled ends, no colour 'leakage' from the blonde, no patchiness - just great colour and even coverage. Over the years I have used practically every well-known brand of hair colour on the market with varying success. I have put up with awful chemical smells and poor results - but not with Herbatint. No smell, no hasle just lovely shiny and soft hair. I have already purchased a couple more boxes to keep in the cupboard.

“I found this review page by chance and I was...”

★★★★★

written by philiprallen on 17/03/2011

I found this review page by chance and I was fascinated by the comments. I am a supplier of Herbatint to the UK market and I have been for 23 years. I noted one or two reviews that said,'it didn't work...''. Herbatint ALWAYS works but, as with any hair colour, you have to know some basic rules first. I noted one reviewer said they put 6N on bright blonde hair and it'went green''. Of course it would. Why wouldn't it? One of the basic rules of colouring hair or even painting a wall is to know which colours oppose each other, ie red is opposite to green. Remember your art classes from primary school. The use of colour is just about as simple as it can be. However, in the UK, Herbatint has a FREEPHONE Helpline dedicated to these questions which is printed on all the boxes and leaflets that we produce. If using for the first time it is always a good idea to read the information and, if still unsure, then call the Helpline PRIOR to colouring. It is a sad fact that some people will colour first, realise there's a problem and immediately blame the product. A bad workman....etc! Incidentally, correcting green hair is a very simple procedure (not that your hairdresser will tell you that!). Please look at the UK website for more in-depth information on colouring your hair,www.herbatint.co.uk and if you would like a salon to do it for you visit www.colourherbe.co.uk. Keep the comments coming as it is good to see so many satisfied customers. Oh, by the way, unlike the major colour companies Herbatint and Colour Herbe have NEVER harmed an animal in development.

written by on 16/01/2011

My friend uses it and her hair looks lovely. I, however, am very disappointed. My hair is fair and used to be strawberry blonde. Now quite light and grey. Used Herbatint 8N (for the grey) and 8D for golden blonde but the result is sadly ash verging on green. Horrible.

I very much wish herbatint had a help line where I could get some assistance.

Herbatint do have a Freephone helpline - you can also get advice via email (info supplied on their website and products). I used the service and was really pleased with the help and advice they gave me - plus it is essential to always carry out a sensitivity test and strand test I once made the mistake of using a Clairol colour without doing the strand test and ended up with my hair a lovely shade of green...

Its the first time I tried this product. I have been using a similar brand called naturtint, my hair had a lovely 7n blonde with highlights, I decided to go one tone down with this brand 6n dark blond and the result was awful, my hair is green now and it looks horrible, like a horse poo.. Can't wait for tomorrow and get my old brand, hopefully my hair can get back as it was after it. I'll wash my hair 100 times to try to rinse it off!! Just wanna cry now!!

I started using Herbatint when my regular brand caused me to have an allergic reaction.. I researched lots of brand but chose Herbatint as it was deemed as a safe product .. I did the patch test twice .. no reaction at all .. so went ahead with the colour .. everything was good no smell nice results even though my hair felt terrible dry until the conditioner went on .. I have continyto use the product for over 3 years .. once a month .so why this month after colouring my hair have I come out with red scaly patches on my face and around my eyes? Even my body feels itchy .. I am scared now to use it again as the inside of my mouth feel a little sore .. I have taken some antihistamine as advised by my doctor.Has anyone else had this problem?

I have dark brown/chestnut hair and I have been using Loreal Perfect 10 4G (Dark golden Brown) for many years. I am switching to a "cruelty free" permanent hair color brand. I'd love some suggestions on which colour(s) to use/mix to achieve my desired, natural colour. Can anyone help? Thanks!
