I bought my 1.2 Twingo from Parks in Dunfermline. I have not gone a full month without the car being back in for faults. The 1st time we had rain I noticed the passenger side footwell wet. The car was back and forth to the service department several times before they found out where the water was coming from! A few of the visits to the service department they didn't do anything to the car except use my fuel to dry the carpets. They eventually repaired this problem, but the day I got my car back I had to return to the service department again this time with the heater not working!! I fought to get a new carpet fitted to the car which was done! However yesterday I was driving the car when the engine maintenance warning lights came on. Car was picked up with truck and taken to Parks. I await their phone call tomorrow. I don't want the car back as I've had enough!! You buy a new car for peace of mind not to be scared to drive it!!

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!! Faulty accelerator makes this a LETHAL MACHINE! Car continued to accelerate from 35mph to almost 60mph AFTER FOOT REMOVED FROM PEDAL. Had a narrow escape, luckily was on a straight stretch of quiet road with no other traffic. Ended up in the ditch after having to turn off the engine to get the car to stop accelerating.

I own an 08reg twingo diamonique. I wish I hadn't bought it. From it being 3months old I had problems with the electrics which took Renault about a year to find the fault and repair. I was without my car for 2 months at one point because of it. All the warning lights came on, the digital spedo disappeared and the warning sound beeped when I tried to drive it. The newest fault is that the accelerator pedal sticks down when driving at 50mph+ and I have to manually pull it back up with my foot- very dangerous!! Renault again have said they can't find the fault so I'm left with a car I'm scared to drive again. I've had such poor service from Renault that I would warn anyone to stay away and I pitty you if you ever have to deal with head office or their customer services department who tell you the computer system is down when you try to complain.

I have the same problem with mine, 2008 with only 8000 miles on the clock, trouble is it is now out of warranty so is going to cost loads to sort. I agree the renault service is rubbish as are there cars. Will never buy another renault.

“I drove a Renault Twingo City Car in Brazil for about...”

Written on: 25/10/2004 by ratotinho (1 review written)

I drove a Renault Twingo City Car in Brazil for about a year. Initially it felt sluggish and unresponsive, but I'd been used to driving a 205 GTI. The initial low-speed acceleration was reasonable for a 1.3L engine. The car was great in the cities, very easy to park and cornered quite acceptably.

Not the best car for motorway driving. It was a struggle to get it up to about 148kmh (92mph) top speed, and had to really thrash the engine to sustain that. However, it would cruise quite happily for hour after hour at 120kmh (75mph). I didn't measure it, but the car didn't seem particularly thirsty.

My biggest complaint was the speedometer, a nasty LED display in the centre of the dashboard, very hard to read in bright sunlight, particularly as the LED seemed to lose brightness with age. This was particularly worrying where there were speed cameras, having to squint and peer at the display was potentially dangerous. At night it was no problem.

The car looked quite nice, much more stylish and with much more space inside than a similar Fiesta or Corsa. Inside the car was plasticky, door handles and other trim dropped off or snapped.

Overall, not a bad little runaround, but I wouldn't buy one for myself, the extra power of the Peugeot 205GTI felt very good after a few months driving a Twingo. Nice styling though, very practical and economical little town car.

No major mechanical problems, just a burst radiator and a worrying knocking developed when steering left, possibly a bent drive shaft.
