I Wanted A Deep Fat Fryer That Was Easier To Clean
I wanted a Deep Fat Fryer that was easier to clean than the usual white plastic things (of which I tried 4/5). As I like to 'really' clean them, it can take a couple of days to strip things down to do properly.
I decided on a Stainless Steel / oblong type. After looking around for a while, I came across the Hometek item, which not only seemed to tick my boxes had the addition of a filter in the lid.
Problem 1: It still took a long time to clean - properly. I still have to strip down the lid, to clean the filte & glass etc.
Problem 2: Could be FATAL !!! After a while the pan spits out globules of boiling fat. The first time it happened - luckily I was in the kitchen by meself with my back to the pan. I heard it banging & creaking & was about to turn round to turn it down/off when all of a sudden, it erupted with a great splash of boiling oil. It went over the back of my head & clothing, & all over the kitchen floor.
I'm almost 60 & cooked all my life (and professionally) - but this made me jump.
I wrote to Hometek & one of their people called me, & to my utter astonishment said "Yes,,,, they can do that. It's where water builds up under the element" !?!?
I only ever cook real poptato chips in my pan (which I dry) and never frozen stuff of any kind.
I was going to ban my family from using it - but no need. They won't go anywhere near it. If I have to use it, I keep them all out of the kitchen & take great care when using this deathtrap.
Using this thing still scares me, but what's more frightening is: that they know it happens !
