Review of - Boog's

Author: Hope Thomas

Illustrator: Stephanie Grossi

Publisher: Mountain Mist Productions

Boog's is the story of a little dog whose ears do not do, as they should. Instead of standing upright they stand out sideways from his head. This makes him feel ugly, unhappy and unwanted.

Taken from his mother and sold to a pet shop, along with the rest of the litter, Boog's hopes for a better life. He is bought by a family and sent to his new home. The little dog is soon bitterly disappointed. There is no warmth or happiness in his world, lonliness is his only companion, so he decides to escape.

Digging under the fence, Boog's now finds himself alone and afraid. Freedom was not what he thought it would be. But his fate was about to take a change that would change his life forever.

Boog's is picked up by a truck driver and taken to his home. This does not turn out as he expected, where he would be loved and treasured. Instead he discovers that he must work as a guard dog or not get fed.

There was one happy consequence that Boog's new home brought about. It happened in the form of Hannah, a grumpy German Shepard with a limp. She feels threatened by Boog's presence, but finally gives in to the little dog's charm and they escape from the truck driver, and start a series of adventures together.

Boog's is a delightful story narrated by an owl, and children will love the squirrel and skunk the dog's meet as they explore their new world. The style of the writing would make this book suitable for early readers to tackle by themselves. Spread throughout the book are illustrations that also enhance the story's plot.

Hope Thomas and Stephanie Grossi have created a book that will be well received by its intended audience.
