General Comments
On 6 September I bought two mobile phones from Currys on-line, both in stock, delivery 5-7 working days. I received two e-mails that day, the first confirming my order, the second advising it was being processed, and I thought my order was progressing quickly. Then on 13 September I was advised by e-mail that there would be a delay in despatch of a further 7 working days. I chased it up, requesting an explanation, and received an e-mail on 15 September saying they had been waiting for stock (strange as the website said both items were in stock), and my order was now with their courier (DHL). They added that I should have received an e-mail with despatch details, together with the item number so I could track the order. As I hadn't, I rang Currys who gave me the item number, but when I rang DHL they said the number didn't exist. I rang Currys back, was given the same number, but this time told my order was still with them which was why I couldn't track it! The next morning I received the e-mail, but when I tried to track my order on DHL's website, it came up 'no details'. Then at lunchtime my order arrived! That evening I put the phones on charge, but when I inserted the SIM cards, one worked, the other didn't! The box had been taped up, and I wondered if I'd been sent a faulty phone that had already been returned. The order confirmation stated goods could be returned to a store, so the following morning I rang Currys at Ruislip to check they had a replacement, but after an hour of choosing options, being put (and left) on hold, then being cut off, I decided it would be easier to just go to the store. I had to queue at customer service for 25 minutes, but when I was served, the assistant was really helpful. I explained the problem, and asked if the phone could be replaced at the same price as on-line (£10 less than in store), and he said yes. The replacement works fine. Like many people, I bought on-line to save money. However, the slow delivery, exchange of e-mails/phone calls, hour long attempt to get through to Currys, plus the trip there and 25 minute wait in the queue, meant I saved nothing financially. I basically just incurred a lot of hassle and wasted lots of my time. From now on I'm sticking to the High Street.
