None really. The handling is a bit on the soft side, but that's about it.

General Comments
Volkswagen Golf 1.9 GT TDi 130 (Mk4)

I have had many Golfs over the years, starting with one of the first 1600cc 4 speed Gti's, but this is my first Mk4 and my first diesel, and I'm very, very impressed with it!

The power and economy are nothing short of amazing. I'm averaging 54mpg in a combination of town & motorway driving, which is pretty good! In standard form, the 130bhp engine has loads of power and a great spread of torque, making it very tractable and able to embarrass many so called sports cars. But a re-map of the engine ECU, as I've had carried out, totally transforms this already powerful car into a 180bhp (yes 180!) diesel powered rocket, with very little noticeable decrease in fuel consumption. This really has to be experienced to be believed!

The handling of the car leaves a bit to be desired when pushed with too much body roll, but the brakes are superb. The brakes are easily up to the job, with 288mm vented discs on the front, and single discs on the rear.

The six speed gear box is precise, but a little notchy at times.

Comfort is good, and the Recaro style sports seats give plenty of support. The front and rear arm rests add to the comfort, and the adjustable steering column allows you to find the perfect driving position.

Equipment level is good, with electric windows all round. There's A/C, a Radio/CD player, and the nicest illuminated dash in blue and red I've seen on a car to date.

There's loads of little storage spaces to be found throughout the car, with cup holders front and rear.

The boot is large enough for most people's requirements, and certainly big enough to accommodate my two Labradors with ease.

Without doubt this is the best Golf I've ever owned! It was a great car even before the re-map, but since well... words fail me! You can't believe your driving a diesel, there is just so much power available in any gear!

It's great!
