Staff Welcomed Us Warmly- First Day Of New Vat Rat

Staff welcomed us warmly- first day of new VAT rate, so pricing was a bit confusing.

Jacket potato served with omelette was undercooked and inedible.

Mashed potato served with liver and onion was suspiciously like instant mash- couldn't be sure but texture and taste suggested this.

Otherwise the food was reasonable but not 1st class, particularly regards presentation.

Don't Be Fooled By The Benign Exterior Of The Risi

Don't be fooled by the benign exterior of The Rising Sun in Swanmore. Behind the unassuming exterior is some great dining. It's a relaxed but lively country atmosphere with friendly hosts who know what the chef does with the food and how it?s cooked.

The pub is on Hill Pound in Swanmore, just a few minutes walk from the village centre.

Dinner starters are £5-9 each, mains £13-16, puds £5-8 and there is a good selection of wines at pub-average prices. Portion sizes just right and very tastey (pudding wasn't quite so good though).

Service was perfectly timed even on a busy Saturday evening.

Plenty of free parking and it's family friendly.

Most tables are ok for the disabled, but it is a traditional and historical pub so there are some steps in the building - ask before booking. And booking is highly recommended as it's popular.

By far the best pub in the village - and for a few villages around too.
