General Comments
Roy Keane,Eamon Dunphy, Keane: The Autobiography is a fascinating read for all football fans and non-fans as well. As you would expect the tough Irishman pulls no punches in what is an explicitly honest account of his amazing career so far.

This book really lets you get into the psyche of Keane. It's cliche, but I have to say, you really get the impression Keane is a winner and in my estimation that stems from his fear of failure. This man has a never say die attitude that few in modern game seem to possess. As many young stars these days are mollycoddled and over-indulged at the ages of 15/16, Keane is an entirely different animal. The book charts his rise through the Irish academies and his constant battle to impress the scouts. This is a man that has had to fight and battle to get to where he is, and that experience seemingly makes him hungrier than many of his contemporaries.

Keane, if nothing else, is an honest man - he doesn't suffer fools, excuses or conmen - and his honesty is made crsytal clear in this book. He speaks frankly and explicitly about his problems with alcohol, the scrapes he got into, missing out on the European Cup Final, THAT tackle on Alf Inge Haaland and delivers many scathing on former team-mates and adversaries alike. He reserves high praise for Sir Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough and delivers pure venom against men like Mick McCarthy and Maurice Setters.

This book is a pulsating read, and I would urge everyone to give it a try. A lady I know, a non-football fan, was glued to the book, that for me says it all. This is quite possibly the best sporting autobiograpy you will ever read.
