BigDunc's review of Vauxhall Corsa Sport

★★★★★

“Having owned the Vauxhall Corsa Sport for 2 years now...”

Good Points
For a small car I found it to be pretty comfortable. It performs well with the 1.6 16v engine being quite revvy and once its wound up is quite an impressive wee car to drive.

Bad Points
Standard brakes are absolute pants - fit 1.8 16v vectra discs and calipers, they go straight on and make no end of difference - a very cheap brake upgrade. Also standard dampers and springs make for some 'exciting' moments when cornering at speed. 5th gear is far too low for motorway and fast road driving, doesn't help fuel economy on long journeys. I have a feeling that the 1.6 ecotec lump won't stand too much abuse and after speaking to various other owners it seems par for the course that they use a bit of oil.

General Comments
Having owned the Vauxhall Corsa Sport for 2 years now i'd have to say it is a very reliable car, never needing anything apart from the usual (tyres, brake pads, etc). It is comfy for its size and the overall quality of build is very good.

Small things like the standard suspension niggle at you a bit, but if you were happy to spend a few quid sorting this out I reckon it'd be well worth it.

Plenty of performace parts available out there for reasonable money and I think it would be a very tuneable wee car but have my doubts about the longevity of the ecotec engine.
