“We have owned 2 Medion laptops, bought originally from...”

written by alex maule on 14/11/2005

We have owned 2 Medion laptops, bought originally from Staples. The second one is a replacement of the first which spent so much time in their workshops having just about every part replaced, that they did agree to replace the whole laptop. The replacement laptop has lasted about 10 months before also refusing to start. We returned it to Medion under their guarantee, and it has now spent more than 6 weeks in their workshop. Despite at least 10 phone calls to their 'helpline', I have been totally unable to find out what is wrong with it and how long it is likely to stay with them. Each time, the person I spoke to promised to ring me back with the information. On no occasion did they do so. This morning I rang yet again and was told that it had been sent to me already. I had needed to speak to them before they sent it out as it needs to go to a different address, but nobody would call me back. Parceline has told me that they will re-deliver it if they get an email from Medion. Medion has refused twice to send such an email. To say I feel bitter and frustrated would be an enormous understatement. My advice would be - NEVER buy a Medion product, you will regret it.

While the laptop worked, it was fine - the key weakness seems to be motherboards (both laptops had them replaced); endless waiting for spare parts; extremely unhelpful, verging on rude, helpline staff; nobody senior in the call centre who can help in any way. During the sessions with the first laptop, the helpline was actually reasonably helpful. They now appear to have no access to information and no desire to be helpful. This presumably comes from the top and the training, and is a real shame.
