“Schopenhauer's opening sentences are stunning; he...”

Good Points
Schopenhauer drives to the very essence of what life is.

Bad Points
Unfortunately life is about being born, going through a range of experiences at different times of your life (if you are lucky; like me), eventually dying, after 'a good innings', in the same way as some other animals (that seems to be the bad point; or is it?)

General Comments
Schopenhauer's opening sentences are stunning; he writes 'The world is my representation: this is a truth valid with reference to every living and knowing being, although man alone can bring it into reflective, abstract consciousness. If he really does so, philosophical discernment has dawned upon him. It then becomes clear and certain to him that he does not know a sun and an earth, but only an eye that sees a sun, a hand that feels an earth; that the world around him is there only as representation........'.etc.

It goes on. Get the book and understand what we humans are about!
