ViewSonic E790

I recently bought this monitor on facebook marketplace in 2025, and it still holds up today. I grew up using LCD's and have some experience with OLED, but have never seen anything as good as this CRT. Best monitor I have ever owned.

Using this monitor now for 12 years and it seems to have done the Job since, after 10 years i noticed that the brightness has got fractionally dimmer, however it has done a fantastic job. It is very sturdy having been dropped twice and showing no decrease in visual quality due to it. If only more Monitors where made with the same quality as this one.

I bought a refurbished ViewSonic E790 (I don't know if there is a difference with the PF790). The colors look good but there is some bleeding of pixels which is most apparant when looking at text.

I straightened the vsync and hsynch, adjusted the convergence and in general monkeyed with it using various resolution tools and websites that help tune monitors (NOKIA has a great website for this). The graphics in games is a solid 9 out of 10 but the text still looks muddy and I can only give it a just acceptable 7 out of 10.

I am running a MSI Gforce4 TI 4200 videocard and at 1024 x 768 and Optimal resolution there is absolutely no flicker. Right up to 1600 x 1200 I found no flicker and games that support higher resolutions look good on this monitor.

I use my monitor for everything from websurfing to word processing but primarily gaming and I give it an 8 out of 10 but if I had to use it primariliy for word processing the Viewsonic E790 would get a just an acceptable 7.
