Gardening Express

AVOID AVOID - DO NOT BUY ! At YOUR RISK!

Posting my review about a rose tree and several rose bushes I was tricked into buying from gardening express - this review is a warning to potential customers!

I’m appalled at how this company treats their customers.

I brought rose bushes and this tree being one as I wanted to start a new garden project. This trees was meant to be the centre piece. It didn’t grow. I spent over £170 on plants with my orders and after a while noticing it was dead alongside two other rose bushes I had brought, I contacted GE on 21.05.2025. It is now 16th June. First they got it wrong that it wasn’t covered by the guarantee, it is. Then they said sorry they got confused. Then asked for proof. All the while blaming a faulty internal customer service management platform that moves your communications to the last of the queue if you chase up your previous email.

Of course if you are being ignored by a company and incompetence of the staff is adding to the problem you will chase them, so they’ve created the perfect excuse to take your money and give you defective plants.

They even had the cheek to ask me to WRITE a LETTER by hand and post it should I wish to complain. It’s 2025 and they think I will write an essay, walk to the post office, pay for a stamp and post the letter - as if you’re worth any effort at all, the stamp price and my time !

This now seems like a sham. My is to now raise aware of this disaster of a company and want other customers about their dodgy practices. Their director must be made aware of how his company is taking a nose dive otherwise it must be that he is complicit and it’s his business model - take customers money, provide defective dead products and then create a broken customer service platform with clowns as staff to steal and cause so much frustration that they go away fed up.

I’m no such customer. I won’t be taken for a ride.

Say customer in charge of cancellation yet unjustified cancellation without permission

I placed an order with Gardening Express on 19th May 2025, expecting delivery within their advertised 3–5 working days, or up to 10 working days during peak periods. Despite these stated timelines, I had not received my order even after 11 working days, prompting me to contact customer support repeatedly. Starting from day 11, I sent several messages to follow up, only to be met with automated responses offering no real update or resolution. It was only today, 6th June 2025, that I finally received a reply from an actual person – a Customer Support Manager – who informed me that my order had been cancelled and a refund issued. At no point did I request a cancellation. I was still within the updated 10–15 working day dispatch timeframe, and I was willing to wait a little longer, especially since no delays were properly communicated before this point. The cancellation was not discussed with me, nor was any alternative or explanation offered other than "we're still within SLA." This experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. Not only was I left in the dark with no proactive communication, but I also lost the opportunity to receive the plants I had carefully selected and was excited about. The customer service was impersonal, dismissive, and unhelpful, and cancelling the order without my consent feels like a way to avoid fulfilling obligations rather than genuinely resolving a customer issue. I will not be ordering from Gardening Express again, and I strongly caution others to consider the poor service and lack of transparency before placing an order.

Do Not Use

I bought 48 "mini plants" - they were not mini, some arrived dead, some had come out of pots, pots were crushed, some are on their last legs. Disappointing and no solution offered by supplier. Due to online selling regs I would expect a refund but they want me to photographe all the plants first - I don't even have the dead ones now!

Delivered 2 Out Of 8 Plants

They dont even hold the plants themselves, i reckon they come from other sources. i get two plants delivered over two deliveries. they have now offered refund as they say their quality control process has deemed my plants as not adequate.

i have planted one of the trees so will watch carefully if it survives as i read plenty of horror stories about Gardening Express.

take advice and shop elsewhere.

Gardening Express - Avoid

Gardening express sent me three plants eaten by insects (remains of lave still stuck to the remaining leaves) - their web site says 'and they’re regularly inspected by DEFRA too to ensure they are pest and disease free when they leave us.' this is patently not true in my case. They also sent me three pathetically small plants that were clearly much smaller than those on their web site - I sent two emails to Gardening Express, one to the person I was liaising with regarding the delivery the second via their web site - neither were replied to. Avoid, avoid, avoid. They may be cheaper than the rest but the plants they sent had been eaten to bits or were tiny. Exceptionally poor value and their customer service is not existent - If I'd known they were this bad I would never have placed the order - order at your peril ....

Appalling Service

Truly appalled by the exceptionally…

Truly appalled by the exceptionally poor service received.

In 2023 I added some hydrangeas to a large border in my garden and this year decided to add more, 2 months ago I ordered exactly the same colour and variety and it arrived 2 weeks later and was subsequently planted. I decided 3 weeks ago to add 1 more- same colour and variety of hydrangea at a cost of £39.99, as well as ordering other items.

The plant arrived yesterday, rather than being a dark ruby red it was pink, the leaves were also a different colour to my other hydrangeas, when I looked at the pot there was no label and the pot was different to the one my previous labelled hydrangea came in.

I immediately contacted the company, sending photos of planted bed, last months order and yesterdays received order and both pots.

Either the person in CS doesn't bother to read complaints or can't understand English.

They have said there is nothing wrong as the pot photo shows the correct item....durrr... obviously not bothered to read, and they have sent me a form to fill in to return the plant at MY EXPENSE...

This year alone I have seen around £600 with GE and only today noticed there is no telephone number to call to discuss

Date of experience: 05 July 2024

Root Rot And Refusal To Do Anything

Raven zz plant arrived and looked okay but after a couple of weeks I noticed that the soil hadn't dried up at all, so I repotted it. When I did most of the roots had gone rotten, with a rotten rhizome too. I went to work sorting the roots out and reporting in fresh soil and got in touch with customer service who refused to do anything. Apparently because the two weeks had passed to return it, its rough. I've queried it but been told they recommend you repot the plants when they arrive (which plant parents know shouldn't be done) so they aren't going to do anything. Terrible customer service, avoid!!
