Decent build process and finance options, but disappointing long-term support

I chose PCSpecialist because their finance options made it possible for me to afford a custom-built PC for work, and the ordering and build process itself was quick, clear, and easy. That part of the experience was very positive. On the support side, the staff I’ve dealt with have generally been polite, helpful, and knowledgeable when I’ve spoken to them so no complaints about the people in tech department. Unfortunately though, I’ve had to speak to them far too often which has escalated to other departments where the experience has been disappointing. Since early on my PC has never truly run properly, and over three years it’s been back to them for RMA twice already both times leaving me without a working system for weeks, only for the same issues to crop up again. In between, I’ve had to replace parts myself just to keep it limping along and multiple calls to tech to be given diagnostics ideas and instructions for me to carry out . Now that the three-year build warranty has expired, I find myself having to fight just to get them to take responsibility and fix what I’ve been saying all along —while they frame anything they offer as “a goodwill gesture” rather than owning the long-term faults. It feels like they’re sticking rigidly to the legal minimum obligations rather than simply doing right by a customer who’s clearly had a lemon from the start. Bottom line: if you know your way around PCs and are happy to diagnose and fix issues yourself, you’ll probably find them fine. But for the average or casual buyer who just wants a reliable, worry-free experience, I honestly couldn’t recommend them.

Makes it so much simpler

I first used PC Specialist years ago for a bit of a gaming powerhouse laptop, it was a superb bit of kit and it lasted me for such a long time. The experience of using the website was good, and delivery time was quick. Fast forward approximately 10 years, and I was feeling the need for an extremely beefy new gaming pc. I've built my own desktop gaming PCs for over 25 years, but work has been so busy lately that I just didn't have the energy to build another. I remembered the experience I had with PC Specialist previously and jumped on their website to check some prices. I had a 5080 system in mind, with a 9800X3D and 64gb of ram. When I started with the custom options I was pleasantly surprised to see the vast number of cases I had available to choose, but even better (and a bit of a genius web design), if a component I chose didn't fit the case if get a warning telling me so. In the past I'd spend hours having to check size compatibility with a self-build. I spent the extra money to get a priority build, so that I'd receive it sooner. True to their word the build was really quick, and I even received an email providing a 360° view of the PC once it had been put together. My concerns about cable management went straight out of the window, they did an incredible job, from my perspective it felt like it was somebody building their very own pc, it had that much care put into it. Upon arrival everything ran smoothly, no hiccups, no issues, no need to phone complaining about anything. How often can you actually say that now about things you buy online? As PC Specialist give you an exact breakdown of the parts used, it's easy to go online and price them up as though you were going to build it yourself. When I did I was very happy to see that the actual difference between myself or them building was extremely reasonable. An amount I was more than happy paying to save me time and effort. Does this mean the end of my hobby builds that's been going for over 25 years... I think it probably is. They took the headache out of getting a new system and delivered something that I'd be proud to have built myself. So thank you for being a business I can trust, you've got yourself a continued repeat customer.

Faultless service

Configuring a laptop is super easy and there are a number of different options for all types of uses and prices. I was able to configure a custom laptop with much better specs than comparably priced, prebuilt models from other well known brands. Laptop was assembled and shipped much quicker than expected. Was packaged very securely and delivery was made securely, requiring a PIN confirmation. Laptop setup was quick and easy, and have had 0 problems with it so far. Have been very happy with the service.

Gaming PC bought.

Choosing the parts was easy and the website is great. They were pretty fast about it too! Do a lot of research before you chose parts, though. Updates at every stage is really really nice. Only bad thing, this won't affect the review score as I'm sure it was an accident. The graphics card third fan would not spin, and had a lot of resistance. After troubleshooting in the BIOS for hours, I went to try check the fan bearing or something; turns out the graphics card BRACKET had been placed in a way that the rubber was actually IN the fan. And the blade was cutting through / rubbing on the bracket rubber enough to stop it from spinning. Anyone who gets a graphics card bracket and/or a amd radeon 9070 XT - if your gpu fan speeds are reading at 0, double check this before you send it back for a faulty graphics card.

Q&A

Bobby24

As I have no experience building a pc, should I consider getting tech assistance or just try build it on my own based of what I can find on YouTube?

4
SteveGraphicsGuru

You should consider getting tech assistance, i have had built to my own specification the equipment i need from PC Specialist, (I have had my last two laptops from them, great service and no, i don't work for them lol). It would make sense to talk to them first as they would have a better grasp of what is currently available in the market right now. They would also know what is best suited to your budget and build according to what you are going to use your PC or laptop for. hope this helps.

RossAylott719

Is the elimina pro laptop aluminium or plastic?

coreylongley

RickyMeekle

Check your BIOS settings for any automatic BIOS access - Like.. As soon as you turn it on, look for something that can turn it off. Also I would recommend speaking to PC Specialist about it.

I would phone them they are very helpful. I would think it depends on how far they have got. they are the best computer firm I have dealt with.my pc is great

Castleman

I'm considering buying a laptop from them and wondered what are the actual laptop itself is like? What make or brand can they be compared to? Are they just a cheap case/shell around quality components or as I'm hoping a decent bit of hardware?

Thanks in advance to everyone!

Hi Castleman

The only chassis I can tell you about is the Cosmos 2 17.3 in chassis the top is brushed gunmetal grey metal and it is the same on the keyboard area the finish is excellent and it really looks the part the chassis is not cheap and it does not flex the laptop weighs over 3kg I would not hesitate to buy another hope this helps
