“Bohemian Rhapsody film telling the story of Freddie...”

Written on: 26/10/2018 by geezergazza16 (1 review written)

Went to see the film yesterday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. It tells the story of Farrokh Bulsara (Freddie Mercury) from 1970 when he joined the band up to the Live Aid concert on July 13th, 1985.

Rami Malek (from Mr. Robot) plays the part of Freddie Mercury and he does this extremely well with a truly great musical and personal portrayal of the Queen front man and historical icon.

The backstory of Freddie`s strict upbringing and relationship with Mary (Lucy Boynton) and his interest in parties, clubs, men and drugs and the admission of bisexuality following his announcement of engagement to Mary is handled without any descent into seedy overtones and uncomfortableness. Even the eventual realisation of HIV infection is handled sensitively and with decorum.

The portrayal of Freddie by Rami is amazing, albeit with a new set of teeth but the strength is in the music and banter with fellow Queen members and this is a great tribute to an amazing performer and a brilliant rock band.

The film runs for 2 hours 12 minutes and also stars Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee as Brian May, Mike Myers as Ray Foster, Tom Hollander as Jim Beach and Aiden Gillen as John Reid.
