“Worst day out”

written by LiliShredniVashtar on 03/07/2012

We had visited Fort Paull near Hull when it first opened a dozen years ago and it really hit the spot, then we looked forward to revisiting this attraction which we finally did back in April of this year during easter, and we could not believe our eyes at how the place had just disintegrated to such a tragic degree. We could not wait to get out. Everything has now become so dirty and is completely uncared for, like a bombsite, which is strange as it now costs a fortune to get in compared to back then. Heaven knows where the money is going to as they later had a lottery grant. I felt absolutely filthy after spending only half an hour back in the place. It was impossible to access some of the underground places because of the disgusting and dangerous state of the stairways and paths, and I did hear that it actually was closed up for a time afterwards because of health & safety. I actually left feeling ill after breathing in the mouldy rotting atmosphere. Its now like a walled field of junk and I cant believe that these people are actually charging visitors to go round what has become a hellhole of a place. Cant believe it has degenerated so far from the great place it was at its launch over ten years ago but suspect it has passed into different hands in the time between. Back then it was clean, friendly, packed with spectacle and fascination. It had been lavishly restored, carefully created and was run by a professional family who were I think linked with Tussauds and London Palladium Cellars. Its now as though it has been long closed and abandoned, but with people keeping its doors open to try and claim an entrance fee, and the only thing worth looking at is the Beverley cargo plane which for decades used to stand at the side of the road in Beverley where everyone could see it for free!
