While Living Over Seas, I Was Fortunate To Get A L
While living over seas, I was fortunate to get a lot of track time, and often I would see the guys on their Super Moto's .Looked like a lot of fun like a motorcycle version of a rally car so when I got back State side after so much time at the track a sport bike seemed like using a 12guage shot gun for a fly swatter.
The SM610ie is well equipped to handle the urban environment loads of bottom end and as agile as a kitten on carpet. Standard items are all high end components such as Sachs rear shock, Marzocchi front forks, Brembo front and rear calipers with full floater rotors. The LCD console unit has multiple displays and offers ample information
The SM610ie is a Super Moto for the everyday use, the maintenance schedule isn't particularly rigorous nor demanding, in my personal opinion the better option for a commuter than some of the more extreme Sumo's. Think of it as a DRZ400SM with more power.(another great bike BTW)
The only faults of this bike aren't real faults, I honestly believe the engineers did their job well, for the exception of the EPA restrictions. It's fitted with an O2 sensor that monitors the emission and leans out the fuel mixture to a fault. This causes the bike to run real lean resulting in excessive heat. I believe this was the reason that my mid pipe cracked on the O2 sensor weld. I had it re welded now I could blame the manufacturer for bad welding but the bike is so good I can't bring myself to do that. Instead I'll blame the rest of the world for wanting its cake and eating it too. It's easier this way. There are other pseudo faults for example this bike is not at home on the freeway but can anyone really fault a large single cylinder for freeway vibration? The only real down fall is current customer service, concerning part availability. BMW recently bought the parent company hopefully BMW USA has a plan for this soon.
Basically it's a great Super Moto at just a tad over 300lbs. it will redefine your concept of what a motorcycle is capable of. If you want to go down a flight of stairs, go up stairs, cut through fields or don you leathers and head to your nearest cart track the SM610ie is capable.
