Comfortable Looking Scooter But....

I bought my 2011 Yamaha X-City from new as it seemed to be a comfortable scooter. HOWEVER it has had a few reliability issues since purchase. Fortunately they were covered by Yamaha's 2 year warranty, as follows:

- First was the clutch, that started slipping (after 6 months). This was replaced and now works fine. I was told that this can happen when the scooter is ridden aggressively for the first few hundred miles (although I am not an aggressive rider!)

- Second was the speedometer which stopped working last week (after 8 months). It is apparently due to a faulty sensor that will be replaced this week under the warranty.

Other than that the scooter rides nicely, although compared to the other scooters I have owned (2008 Honda PS125 and Aprilia Sportcity 300), I find the suspension to be unforgiving. I had it adjusted by the dealer but there isn't must scope for dampening it, so still quite hard (especially with a pillion passenger).

Update Nov 2016: since writing the above review, my x-city is now over 5 years old and has approx 17,000 miles (27000 km). After the initial reliability issues early on, it rides well and has not had any issues since. In fact I would say it is only now broken-in and provides a smoother ride. Handles well but not a particularly fast bike in acceleration. Would recommend a used one if you can find onethat has been well looked after.

I Have Bought This As A Commuter To Keep The Milag

I have bought this as a commuter to keep the milage off my Yamaha 600. It is perfect for the 15 mile round trip per day. I am a big chap and still get 86mpg. It is a perfect town bike, the computer says that I only average 20mph so the mpg is great.I like the temperature gauge and the weather protection. when I want to go fast and tour I use the 600, so don't forget the limitations of a smaller bike.

Yamaha X City 125 Hi Have Owned The X City 12

Yamaha X City 125

Hi Have owned the x city 125 for around five months now. I bought it as a second bike to get me through the winter. Unfortunately, Yamaha didn't fit snow tyres so its not had as much use as I would have hoped.

Anyway,I have covered just short of 1500 miles and await my third set of rear shocks. The originals went before the first service but weren't swapped until 1000 miles and the second pair failing at the 300 mile mark.

The digital clocks were swapped at 600 miles.

On the plus side the bike is fun to ride and returning 90mpg. Dependant on the wind and road gradient I can achieve between 65mph - 73mph (On the clocks)

This is a big heavy scooter that costs a small fortune, the seat is stepped and sometimes can be uncomfortable as it forces me to sit in an awkward position.

I wouldn't buy his bike again as it's probably not worth the money.. I would save the dosh and go for the less fancy Cignus which would probably do the job just as well with a lot less fuss. And - oh yes, you would probably get more kit under the seat of the Cignus as X City will only take the half-lid.
