Disgusting Money Grabbing Behaviour

On holiday in Somerset, we had a problem with the car making a bad noise from the rear after going over a speed hump in a car park (very slowly I may add). I had taken my parents on holiday to Somerset while I attended a conference day in Yeovil. My parents are in their 60s and my father is disabled after a stroke. They took my car to kwik fit to get it looked at while I was attending my conference (they didnt want to be stuck in the holiday let with no transport)

Kwik fit looked at it at 9am and told them it needed the entire rear axle replacing as it was bent and that was causing the problem. Anyone who doesnt know about cars - this runs the width of the car and is basically a large bit of metal. You would have to hit a curb at about 60 or 70 mph to have even a chance of bending it and not only would you know you had hit it, the wheel would be distorted as well and wouldnt sit straight.

They quoted £850 to replace the rear axle.

We got a second opinion from another garage who said the issue was actually a manufacture problem on a recently replaced spring rubbing on the axle. The spring was slightly bent and that caused it to rub on the axle. The axle itself was fine, no bent bits at all.

Kwik fit should have known (and I think they did as they wouldnt look my mum in the eye when telling her the price) and could have replaced the spring that day for a cost of around £120. . Gotta be really low to try and get an extra £700 quid out of an old disabled couple!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!! Go to Wyvern Motor Company on Ilchester Road they were really helpful and nice x
