Compass Ralley 524
We recently bought Compass Ralley 524 2004 second hand from a dealership. We had a terrible experiance with it, I used a VW 1.9 T5 Transporter van to tow it. On our first trip out I found the caravan a night mare to tow. I was for many years a long distance lorry driver so towing trailer is nothing new to me. I found this caravan was pushing the T5 around and the ride was very very bumpy with the caravan making the back end of the van dip when under breaking.
We also discovered the paper covering the formica in many places around the caravan was peeling off. The 2x1 baton set up that was the main foundation for the seating was rubbish and one of the seats broke soon after purchase.
The alarm that comes as standard with this caravan was re-arming it's self all the time and the alarm would go off randomly if the mains were not turned off and the battery disconnected when we were away from the caravan.
I reported all of this to the dealer and I got over whelmed with bull you know what from them.
I would not recommend buying one of these second hand I have been told the alarm problem is common with the compass range of caravans.

During The Short Time We Have Has This Van It Has
During the short time we have has this van it has constantly been back to the dealer for repairs, from doorS leaking, electrics not working, fridge not working, screws falling out regularly or sheering off. Now MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. The whole structure of the van is in question. Metal plates holding the furnire and cabinets to the walls have sheered, every cabinets and seat is coming away from the walls. The floor squeeks when you walk over it. The dealer admits that it is so bad they cannot fix it and want to send it back to Eldis for repair. We have said we want a new van not one thats had a bodge job done on it. This van is not fit for purpose.
It is now with the dealer and we refuse any other option but a new van. NOT AN ELDIS OR EXPLORER GROUP VAN.

The Compass Ralley 524 Is A Great Looking Caravan.
The Compass Ralley 524 is a great looking caravan. Tows much better than our previous Alko chassis van. Only problem so far - the floor vent in the under oven cupboard is right behind the wheel and the dirty road water sprays up into it. Explorer have supplied a DIY vent cover solution for us to fit.
Update May 2012 - Since writing this review this caravan has been riddled with faults. The veneers came off of the cabinet doors (doors replaced after three other faulty sets), the cabinets came away from the walls (back to Elddis for strengthening work), the rear blind fell off, the gas locker door fell off, the front window has been replaced (twice), the microwave blew up, the veneers came off of the furniture, the gas fire stopped working and now, to cap it all, we have damp in the front of the caravan. All of these issues have or are being resolved by our local long suffering but determined dealer and by a trip back to Elddis. Elddis wriggled over the damp (3 years into a 5 year warranty) because the service had been carried out when the caravan was 3 years and 3 days old and not just 3 years old but have authorised the remedial work.
It is still a great looking van, tows well, and ticks all of the boxes for us. As long as Elddis continue to support it we will persevere.
Why Elddis cannot address their build quality and aftersales issues I do not know. They produce a great product but in our case have been let down by their poor quality control at the factory and by hopeless aftersales support.
