Have Had A Lot Of Problems With The Electronic Con

Have had a lot of problems with the electronic control panel on the Ace Airstream 630.

Water pump, lights heating do not work without it .Van has been back to supplier 3 times in 15 months and have not used it more than 6 times. Failed again and had to abandon our trip.

well designed for small van

I also have an ACE Airstream 630EW puchased new September 2008 from a large dealership in Warminster. It has had many faults including a replacement control panel which took about 5 weeks for the dealer to source from Swift and their uk supplier as one could not be supplied until they received the faulty one back (I guess for repair). Luckily this was at a time when we were not planning to use the van but I was pretty surprised with this inflexible approach as it does effectively render the van useless. I can't recall the original fault but a week or two later it failed again at power-on (bank display) however I managed to speak with the dealer's workshop manager who suggested disconnecting the cables from behind the panel (a simple job) and this overcame the problem, otherwise it would have meant an abandoned trip (it wouldn't have been the first!). I am however still experiencing irregular behaviour with the water heating controls and suspect that this replacement unit is subsequently faulty too. The hot water recently failed for several days whilst touring abroad, strangely after reconnecting to the electric one night and the RCD tripped at the supply. The hot water control was totally inactive (no lights). I followed the troubleshooting guide and checked fuses but to no avail. Ok, we were in Portugal in summer so this was only an inconvenience but if it had been Scotland in the winter then it would have been a disaster. After returning home however it started to work again - crazy. As I write this, I'm nursing the hot-water which now only seems to work if the heating thermostat cuts in which means I can't heat the water without having the heating on. I thought at first it was just that I didn't understand the heater controls but now I'm convinced there's a fault. All in all I love the layout, design and looks of the van but the problems we've experienced have tainted the purchase and I wonder if I should have gone for a continental job!

We also have had problems with the contol panel on the airstream 630 ek We have had 2 new panels and Brownhills made us pay for the last one as we were going away and needed the control panel (no lights or water pump works with out it) even though the van was still under warrenty saying they would have to send it back to Swifts for investigation before they could reimburse us. That was over 4 weeks ago we rang Brownhills last week and they still have not had a reply. The last one is still working after 7 days use
