OK - As a licence holder of almost 40 years and owner/driver of many cars, the Honda S2000 has proved to be the best car I've ever owned and I've no immediate intention of getting rid of mine.
Originally won on Ebay at £14,600 as a one lady owner driver vehicle with 27k on the clock, I can only say after 4 years of driving it, including several rapid runs across to Germany and back where I've seen it clock 261 kph (no kidding!), I've rarely seen consumption worse than 25mpg and over all the time I've had it, it has averaged out at 28mpg.
The only major downside is that in order to provide the ultimate grip in the dry, the Bridgestone Potenza tyres don't deliver much in terms of wet weather grip and consequently, drivers should take care on wet roads and don't even bother trying to drive on snow or ice.
Hoods should last between 6 and 8 years and a replacement will set you back in the region of £850 (This lifespan holds true for most rag-tops though). Tell-tale signs of imminent hood replacement on the Honda are small splits in the fabric nearest the door handles and/or a small dousing in water from the vicinity of the hood side frame rails (driver or passenger side) when the top is up and as you pull away for the first time after rainfall.
The aforementioned Bridgestone tyres are reasonably priced: rears (approx. £130), fronts (approx. £70). You don't want to be caught with a flat if possible because the spare is a space-saver and there's no room in the boot for the wheel you take off!.
Luggage space is limited but you can always invest in a boot rack if you intend touring (best I've seen is the stainless steel version from Classic Carriers).
As a group 20 car, don't expect cheap insurance unless you're an old fart like me.
Intermediate services currently cost £210 (Sept 2010) and major services every 4 years are double this.
So much more fun to drive than an MX5, so much cheaper to run than a Boxter and so sweet redlining at 9000rpm.
Buy and enjoy!!!

Just bought a 2005 Honda S2000 2.0i VTEC GT, no regrets, what a superb piece of machinery, a joy to drive and a true sports car for the money and far better all round to the common Porsche Boxster S & BMW 3.0i. I test drove all three and and felt the S2000 had much more to offer than the others and would seriously recommend to take one for a test drive and see for yourselves, its a no brainer, trust me!!! Good points are not many on the road, great power, handling and a great car to own, you can't go wrong, HONDA V-TECS bullet proof. Has siily boot release positioned badly

Honda Launched This To Celebrate Their 50th Birthd
Honda launched this to celebrate their 50th birthday in 2000 and its been subtly tweaked every year since..
Whoooo Ha!
Grown up 2 seat sports car...
Who cares if you're called a hairdresser in a car like this?...especially if its a comment from a sick as a parrot 'hot hatch' driver.
This is a real performance car from a maker of F1 winners. Not some half baked Korean tinplate pose wagon.
