I Had A Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 For Around 2 Years.
i had a sapphire cosworth 4x4 for around 2 years. it was in superb condition. and cost me 4.5 k plus a 200 sx turbo i had. i swapped it with a lad from a little town not far from where i live.
at 1st it cost me abit of money i had trouble with the clifford alam, central locking motor on drivers door. new hand brake cable and calipers for the back. new motorsoprts ht leads.
it was running 330 bhp on geen injectors,t34,upgraded head gasket, 3 bar map sensor upgraded rad and intercooler etc...
it had full leather inside the car which again like the body work was in superb condition, had boost gauge and oil temp gauge.
it had upgraded shocks and springs and the box and clutch on it where like new. this is one area to check if buying one. make sure the box is ok as big power puts alot of pressure on it. and clutch will soon go if your doing standing starts etc and running alot of power defo on 4x4 cars..
also look out for rot on rear arches, this is the main problem of the cosworth and around sunroof. of course there old cars now so inless there low miles on them or some old boy owns it and cleans it all the time. your going to get rust or faded paint on them.
to get a good one these days which is fuly sorted your looking at £5,000 imo to get a good one. agasin remember if engine has had alot of work upgradeds to clutch, shocks, brakes, needs doing if you want it to handle and stop well.
i would have one again tommorrow if i could but there are cars out there now which are not as old and not far off the pace of them.
i had races in mine with ren 21 turbo that had been tuned, subaru's golf vr6''s and didnt lose one race it use to blow them away.
trouble is with skylines they car run stock bottom end and with stage 1 upgrade on them run close to 380 400 bhp. so you dont no what you come up against with them.
the one thing i will say when driving the cosworth i use to get old people young people all looking at it. and even have people come over to me when filling up fuel to ask if they could take a look around it.
EVERYPNE GOT TO OWN AT LEAST ONE COSWORTH IN THERE LIFE.

Bought My Moonstone Blue Ford Sapphire Cosworth 4x
Bought my moonstone blue Ford Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 about 4 years ago for £4500 , only intended to keep it for the summer but got bitten by the cosworth bug and so it's still with me now and hopefully will be for a long time to come. Yes they are getting old now compared to newer machinery but that is part of the enjoyment. To be honest the cosworth is every bit a supercar, but one that can be driven every day, the costs are reasonable, you have four door practicality and an engine that will pull 150 mph effortlessly time and time again, embarassing a lot of modern so called supercars in the process. Add to this the cosworths increasingly classic status and growing rarity and its not hard to see why so many people who buy them end up keeping them, just remember a bad one (and there are plenty bad ones about) will cost you a fortune to run and maintain.... but get yourself a good one and i can guarantee you that no other car for the same money will even come close. The respect other drivers afford you, the rush as the turbo kicks in , and the endless enjoyment of showing other road users just what a 12 year old ford is capable of is something that should be experienced at least once by all car enthusiasts, and as for my own one; will i eventually sell her as i had originally intended......not a chance !!!

I Have Owned Quite A Few Performance Cars And To B
I have owned quite a few performance cars and to be honest I thought that like the rest I`d have my 4x4 Cossie a few months and then sell it and move on. I can`t. I love it to bits. Even the new Focus RS (which I briefly considered purchasing) couldn`t replace my Saff. The Cosworth engine is a total thoroughbred and even at the standard 220 BHP it`s totally detuned for road use. They don`t depreciate as quick as most cars and you`ll never have any trouble finding a buyer when it comes to selling.
Selling cosworths can be difficult because your selling to a very limited market, however , drive down any road in the country and you can guarantee that you will pass at least half a dozen impreza's they really are as common as mondeo's nowadays , how often do you see a cosworth though, maybe once or twice a month if your lucky , that's why cossies will always be coveted by those people who like to be different
Although the sapphire 4x4 is a great car, I disagree with your selling on point. I have been trying to sell mine for eight months. The bodywork is sound. It looks standard except for a stainless exhaust and has £7000 worth of motorsport engine/turbo under the hood fitted a year ago by an engine builder that carries a lot of respect with him. If you want to sell one (why would you) you should keep it standard! You can see the car at http://www.cosbot.co.uk
Good review, mate!

I Bought My Ford Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 A Couple Of
I bought my Ford Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 a couple of months back for £8000. It took me a while to find the right one and i was sad to see some very poorly kept Sierra's but the one I got was in near perfect condition (very small dent in door etc). Nearly 68k on the clock, 17 inch alloys and 3 inch exhaust and 300bhp under my right foot. So far, I have spent nearly £3000 upgrading it to around 350bhp (bigger turbo, 4 inch exhaust and my personal favourite modification a genuine RS500 intercooler fitted) which see's off BMW M3's, GTiR's - nothing beats seeing the sight of a Scooby in my rear view mirror trying to keep up with me.
Cossie's rule End off!! Scoobies have no chance of even touching the Legendry status of the Cosworth badge
The Escort and sierra has won rallies in the past so it`s got the handling. People are producing them with 800+bhp these days look on youtube. The escorts and 3dr cossies looked out of this world.
The newer shape Supra really is a piece of Jap monkey metal.Having driven and unfortunately worked on one i can confirm they are awful.
The interior has the most rattles of any car.Shrouds of black tacky plastic, horrible steering, decent performance but not exactly race bred.Basically a cheap immitation of a Porsche 928.Tacky,cheap rice burner.
okey man let it out. a 1989 mustang seleen from the u.s with 550hp ? never seen that before . so whats on your car ? why do you guys talk about speed and fast cars if will spend 65% of our time in traffic ?
All you lot seem to whine on about is driving in a straight line, what about cornering etc, etc, don't sound like boy-racers and talk your age for once lol. Modify a Cosworth engine (who doesn't) for the sake of the argument you can keep up with most supercars and today's RS Focus. Sub 5 secs with a 4x4 Stage 3.
You people act like little gurl's mines faster than yours! But anyway, obviously the Supra kicks any cossie's ass, just by looks! I like cossie's but Japanese reliability is much better 2!

Owned Mine For Two Years And It's Still Standard B
Owned mine for two years and it's still standard bar the wheels and exhaust. Big plans for performance next year (turn 25, cheaper insurance). Goes like stink and is reliable for a car with this performance (in two years I've had two problems - a distributor cap and an oil pressure switch which cost me a total of about £50). Love whupping BMW's but every Nova ned trying it on grates after a while. Still have problems with Subaru Impregnates but this should no longer be the case following next years upgrading!
Get serious..all this prattle about "my car" and "your car" and "my ucle's car" and my "mate's car"..its all pretentious moronic waffle and infantile thumbsucking. Can we have some serious engineering discussion or has the world come to the point where cars are judged by some fantasy about off the traffic lights and the public nuisance the stereo can create in its monstrous power and monstrous music blasted at the innocent public by lame brains who think this sublimates their egos. Can we actually talk about the reality of the cars instead of something created during pocket billiards....yes or no??
Cheers Tony
enough talk about jap rubbish we all know cosworth is urban king in all forms. My sapphire 4x4 is 2.4ltr running dark greens & a few other trick bits, but still runs standard exhaust & air filter etc, for insurance purposes of course. It nukes scoobys & supras for fun, cosworth is king accept it. Roll on focus cosworth :)
my mates got a sapphire 4wd and we've raced many Impreza's. they're quite quick: up to about 5mph, then even a standard cossie should cane it.
You wont have any probs with impretzels at around 300bhp,my 4x4 is at 290bhp and eats them.0to60 in 4.89 aint bad either for a 105k mile engine, try that in a sushi burner.
You can pull stats out of your bum all day long but if you've seen a Supra go off the line at a drag strip (and i have seen a 700bhp one doing this) they are totally unimpressive. By the time they have spooled up a 1.2 nova merit would have 100 yards on it.
Of course, I can say all this because my last 4x4 sapphire cosworth had anti-lag and destroyed everything.
