I Have Owned My Ford Probe 2.0 16v For Nearly 4 Ye

I have owned my Ford Probe 2.0 16v for nearly 4 years and have no intention of getting rid. It is a good looking, rare and sporty looking motorcar.

It has 97k on it's clocks now, over 40k having been done in my ownership!

The standard wheels (3 spoke directional swirlies) were awful and were replaced with 5 spoke 17" alloys last year. An MX-6 spoiler was also colour matched and added, the wing mirrors being sprayed at the same time.

The car handles like a dream. My first drive through country roads saw me pushing it harder than my previous BMW 3 series and it's surefootedness inspires confidence. Even better with the different wheels.

Motorway cruising at 80-90 is comfortable and quiet, although the radio does need turning up at higher speeds!

The boot is massive for a sports coupe and swallows enough luggage for a family of 3 going away for a week.

Rear seat is fairly spacious, and one friend has commented on it being the best back seat he has slept in.

I have only had one real problem, and that was with the alarm/immobiliser, a common fault with both 2.0 and 2.6 models. This was resolved with the disconnection of the manufacturers fitment, and no more problems since.

At 85k the ball joints needed replacement and the rear callipers began siezing. They were freed off, but I think new ones will be required next year.

It is fairly economical to run, probably returning in the region of 35mpg average

I have never owned a car as long as this and still smile at it's flowing lines everytime I go to it.

Small children still come up and say 'Nice car mister, I want one of those when I grow up'I would thoroughly recommend ownership of Fords forgotten sports car for cheap and enjoyable motoring with a sensible edge.

I Got My Ford Probe Just Over A Year Ago, And Fell

I got my Ford Probe just over a year ago, and fell in love with it at 1st sight. Granted my insurance was £800 p/a fully comp. But that's to be expected concidering it's my 1st car (at 30!!!)

I love the style, large bonnet, huge boot, stereo set up is fantastic, just got the creature comforts I like.

However, there is a down side. Price of parts, and the availability. It's horrible. Over the past few months, the car has been using oil, so I got price of parts for a basic full engine overhall. Piston rings, shells, head gasket kit etc etc. £700 for the lot. And that's not fitted!

But I suppose that's to be expected!

So, I have to move on to something a little more sedate (yeah, right) I'm debating either between a Mitsubishi FTO (expensive parts again!) or a Vauxhall Omega 2.5 auto CDX (which is looking more likely)

I like my space, which the Probe has, I like a bit of speed, which the Probe has, and creature comforts, which again, the Probe has.

Would recommend the 2.0 but the 2.5 v6 is only 1 group higher insurance, and there's more gadgets!
