Golf Gear Box

Brand new 1.6 DTI 2010, two weeks old and had to have a new box fitted, ever since then I have been getting a banning sound now and then.I tend to keep cars for three years, cant wait to get rid of this one.

Mind you the doors are quite when you close them.

Brilliant Runaround

lOOKS GOOD AND DRIVES WELL. VERY ECONOMICAL. WOULD HAVE PREFERED THE 5 DOOR AS THE 3 DOOR, THE DOORS ARE TOO BIG AND DIFFICULT GETTING OUT OF THE GARAGE. FANTASTIC VALUE FOR MONEY. WOULD RECOMEND THIS MAKE.

1.4 1.6 Mk4 Golf, Skoda Fabia1.4, Seats 1.4 Common Gear Fault

what ever you do people do not buy the 1.4 1.6 mk4 golf, skoda fabia ,skoda octivia ,1.4, seats they all have gear box problem. when the gear boxes have been either hard driven or reached a high mileage they tend to fail estimated failure mileage is around 96K .. so do your self a favour get ur self a TDI or GTI since they are better built gear boxes but defo sure the mk4 golf tdi are reliable and good fuel consumption and cheap on insurance if you buy the 90bhp version not the 110 bhp so good luck =]

Have Just Bought A Vw Golf 1.6se Automatic 2000 Re

Have just bought a VW golf 1.6se automatic 2000 reg. Thought i couldnt go wrong buying a Volkswagen, but how wrong i was.

Terrible drive and handling plus the automatic gearbox races and struggles to find fourth gear. Just paid 2 grand for this car with only 66k miles and cambelt changed. Be interested to hear of any other drivers experiencing same problem on the automatic.

Car is going back to garage where purcased from. Bloody frustrating.

Had i known this beforehand about the reliability on the auto gearbox i would have walked away.

Would certainly never consider buying a Volkswagen again for the remainder of my life expectancy.

Had the same 2001 1.6 auto clutch slipping at 40k miles yes 40! Turned out needed new gearbox, ended up losing a grand on it, never again.

I Bought An 1.6 Se Golf About A Month Ago. It Is A

I bought an 1.6 SE golf about a month ago. It is a lovely looking car but it is taking a lot of getting used to. I find that you have to give the car quite a lot of revs when setting off to get the car to move with out chugging (or stalling sometimes!)may be the having to get used to a new car but i have never had this much trouble getting used to a car before, dont get me wrong when you are on the move it is a very nippy thing doesnt take much to get it moving.

I bought a Golf Varient in 2008. The Gearbox needed to be changed after just 20,000Km and thank God it was still covered.

My brother bought a Scirocco and his Gearbox was fried at about 20,000Km as well!!!!!

I don't think I will be buying VW anymore

I Have The 1998 Golf S Mk4 1.6. I Have Been Looki

I have the 1998 Golf S mk4 1.6. I have been looking to get a second hand g/box for over 3 month now. My Garage told me that this is a common problem and that the g/box are quite a nightmare to find. At first i did not believe them but now my car has been at the garage for over 3 months and i do not know what to do with it, Rang VW dealer and they said it will cost me about £1300. Only if i knew this, i wouldn't have got rid of my previous car to car a car that looks nice but cannot do what it was bought for in the first place.

Excellent Little Round Around And I Haven`t Had An

Excellent little round around and i haven`t had any major problems. All MOT`s passed except for tyres- which was my own responsibility. Good on petrol. It`s taken me further a field to London and Leeds a number times and never caused problems. Fast and nippy for what it is. I would definately look to get another Golf in the future as they`re great cars and also keep their value.
