This Is My Second Rover 400 - It Is The 1.4is Mode
This is my second Rover 400 - It is the 1.4is model, which is faster and more luxurious than my previous 1.6i. Really quick at the lights if you're into that sort of thing. I paid £750 for this car in August and it is truly great in ever way - a real pleasure to drive. Doesn't look like a £750 car either! Only snag is that a week after I bought it, it developed a head gasket failure resulting in a £450 bill, but the blessing was that the mechanic changed the timing belt for £35 at the same time (since the engine was already in bits), and he serviced it. Since them no problems at all. Can't wait until my wife passes her test so we can go Rover hunting again!
I love this car - It is true that it's incredible.

We Bought This Rover 414i 16v Second Hand About Fo
We bought this Rover 414i 16V second hand about four years ago. Unfortunately, ever since, there has always been a problem somewhere. However, not all is negative, if you are a person who only wants a car to get from "a" to "b" this car would probably do fine. But can sometimes be a bit faulty, and rather nasty when up for servicing, but being 10 years old, it's not really suprising. Overall, if you just want the car to drive from one place to another, get it. If you want it as a fashion statement, dont!
My N reg Rover 414i has only done 63K. I popped down the street and the clutch disintegrated. It will cost about £350. Do I keep it or get shot of it? I'm a pensioner.

If The Rover 414i 16v Family Car Is Pre 1997 Then
If the Rover 414i 16V family car is pre 1997 then you can expect problems with the head gasket they are prone for failing and repair bills are expensive the head usually warps when the gasket fails (the heads alone cost over £1000).
The gearboxes on the pre 1997 models are also prone to exessive wear and can become noisy.
So be warned putting your foot down in this car can cost you a lot more than a speeding ticket.
i agree on the head gasket and gearbox issues but they also suffered from sticking valves but apart from this value for money wise they are as cheap as chips!

The Rover 414i 16v Has Impressive Performance For
The Rover 414i 16v has impressive performance for a 1.4 5 door hatchback. It outruns most 1.6 engines and is fun to drive at high revs. I bought this car 2 years ago and it had 90,000 miles on the clock. Now it has 130,000 miles and I haven't had any problems so far. Quite surprising because I usually keep the revs over 3000rpm. Great car to start off with!
