What Can I Say Regarding This Marvelous Piece Of G
What can I say regarding this marvelous piece of German engineering?? more than enough to give a good review!!
I currently own the C180 Elegance model and I cannot think of a single fault i've had with it.
First the Pro's The car is heavy and durable and makes you feel save driving at whatever speeds. 70mph feels like a steady cruise, no sense of speed. Depending on the the driver this can be a pro or con. if there's any cross winds they feel like a little nudge.
The Driving comfort is beyond description..Since my girlfriend attends University in another town i do a regular 63 mile down and same milage back. the seats are very accomodating and extremely comfortable.
The gear box can be a bit sticky in the mornings until it reaches optimal temprature. Once it gets there it's brilliant!.
the fuel consumption is quite good for city driving and even better for the Motorways & duel Carriageways. This thing was built as an Autobahn cruiser so no surprises there.
The Steering in standard mode is a bit gittery so i tend to keep it on Wet setting which gives more 'body' to steering i.e the stanrd setting has a slight detached feel.
I have had no serious problems with the car and no sign of anything, I am the 4th owner of this car and it passed it's MOT no problem.
I've heard that the older Mercedes are better/ more reliable than the newer models . I can certainly say that if you are going for an older Mercedes, make sure it's this one.
all of this is of course based on my own experiences.

I Bought A C180k - Avantgarde (doesn't Matter) In
I bought a C180K - Avantgarde (doesn't matter) in late 2004 after changing three more brands before (not worth mentioning, but all of German origin). Unfrotunately it was written off from a motor car pile up accident in November 2008, which if it was not by God's Grace and the good design of this car I would be no more - I came out spotless whilst the damage amounted to R185 000 (front and rear impacts with a popped driver's air bag). The car had 220 000km on the clock and the engine perfomance was amazing(never had any day with a problem). Routinely serviced and of cause kept in mint condition and doing what I bought it for, driving any time I feel like and enjoying long distance rides. Anyone that wants good value for money, lock yourslef into the Merc brand. Kelepile Dintwe in South Africa.

The Build Quality Of The Mercedes Benz C Class 180
The build quality of the Mercedes Benz C Class 180 Elegance is good but the little things like the doors opening when your doing 70 mph down the motorway that put me off slightly( had to be taken back). But the shell itself is solid.

I Got My W Reg 87k Miles Mercedes 230k Auto After
I got my W reg 87k miles Mercedes 230k auto after my previous (3 year old - driven from new) 5 series BMW broke down 5 times in 3 years!)
Anyway - car had FSH - vital for any used Merc, and in the 7 months I have had it - no niggles no problems and drives pretty good. Has a bit of a sloppy feel to the steering when the box is on sport - but if you switch it to wet - drives much better.
Was an ex police car so has been meticulously maintained. It is not an exciting car to drive, you are not going to beat many boy racers at the lights, but then it is not designed for that - great motorway cruiser.

After experiencing my dad's W123 1984 300D, I bought a Mercedes Benz C180 Elegance. If you want a car that you will spend money on once a year (full service), and then the ability to drive to your hearts content, then buy a Mercedes! I put thousands of M1, M6 and M25 business miles on mine for 3 years, and never used my RAC membership.

I Had A '99 Mercedes Benz C180 Elegance Family Car
I had a '99 Mercedes Benz C180 Elegance Family Car from new and this was a great car...you really felt that you were driving a merc. Then I bought the new model in '01. It felt lighter and not as solid on the road. Everything in the car is flimsy, covers falling off screws, glove-box jamming, arm rest stowage jamming, parking break ratchet snapping on several occasions. Other more serious problems were the gearbox being very sticky and eventually being replaced, with the new one feeling the same. Also, the electric windows have a bug (which has never been solved) where the comfort switch would not work. The C180 is the introduction to executive cars and people like me who buy them typically have therefore had to save hard for the car. Therefore there is a feeling of being completely taken to the cleaners with a car that claims to be all that Mercedes Benz promises but infact is nothing but Lada quality sold for Mercedes Benz pricing!!!
You will find that the parking brake ratchet is made from aluminium, which is not very durable for that purpose, but if you put your foot lightly on the parking brake pedal before using the release handle, it will last as long as on any other car. My 1995 one still works perfectly.
I agree with you, the little plastic screws in the back fall off and the parking sensor blew up and had to be replaced about 12 times and it was then they refunded us half the money back (for the all round sensors) But i think they are made in South Africa so that does not say much.
