I Didn't Do Much Research Into This Car Before I B
I didn't do much research into this car before i bought it, as my car was written off and i needed one ASAP. Boy, do I regret that. I have had nothing but drama's with it. When it goe's it runs well, but make sure you leave yourself time to get it started. It can take me 5-10 mins to get it started, kicks over then conks out. I think the scariest moment was when i turned at a set of traffic lights, and the engine cut out and lost all my power steering (another common fault in the car) The car was designed so badly, that the oil settles into the idle air control valve, which is why it takes forever to start, so if you have the time to clean it out at least once a month then go for it! The worst of my luck with this car came last week, when the engine sounded somewhat like a truck! Oil everywhere! The pressure built up so much in poorly built engine that it went POP and all my piston rings are stuffed and need to recondition engine. Once it is running, I will get rid of it.. too much money wasted! I almost feel unethical to sell it. The car was regularly serviced and looked after. Im not saying there all like it, i know people who havent had problems, just be aware and get your mechanic to thoroughly check before you buy!

I Purchased My Vectra (jr 1998 2litre) When It Had
I purchased my Vectra (JR 1998 2litre) when it had 65,000kms on it. This car performed as if it had just rolled of the sales floor! It's little 2 litre motor revs out nicely to 6000rpm and holds balance very well. On Australian Premium Fuel (98 otc) I was getting about 730kms off 60 litres - that is about 70% highway 30% city - very impressed.
One very small 'issue' is the cam belt has been docummented to 'fail' early and as a result is now changed under warranty at 60,000km (not 120,000km as previous). As I was not under warranty, our friendly 'rip off' Holden dealer stung me for aprox. AU$670 for the job after a quote AU$440
I would highly recommend the Holden Vectra as I have found it to be a very reliable and smart car. Also a pleasure to drive, with a bit of 'piff' when you need it!

The Holden Vectra Is A Nice Car, I Like The Style
The Holden Vectra is a nice car, I like the style and ride. Re the Traction Control gentleman:- The Traction Control button should be on your right hand side of the central controls, at the same level as your cd player. Pressing this button actually turns off the traction control, this will be when the TC lights up on your dash. When you turn on the ignition, the computer systems runs a check on all components, that is why you will see the TC light on your dash.
I have 1999 V6 hatch, the car has been very good to me, up until 60000km, then the dealers have been at a loss. I have the the engine light intermittently come on and off, I lose all power (power levels drop below a 4 cyc would), then the light will go off and power levels come back. The computer does not store an error code, therefore the dealers can not help me. I have had the crankshaft sensor fail on the last day of warranty, however this problem is still ongoing. I have made complaints to GM, but I have received no assistance on this matter. I believe that my problem still lies with the sensors, but which one?
All other problems have been with Holden failing to correctly do the maintainence on my car...a bunch of fools!
I from Perth,I also own Vectra,I couldn't agree more. My car is out of warranty, but after all of those hasles and lies from GM is time to start Class Action, maybe they wake up
I know of what sound like similar problems with Vectras. Tell you friendly mechanic to check for corrosion of the Air Flow Meter (AFM). It has resolved what sound like very similar symptoms in other cars. Simple cheap fix and away you should go.

My Holden Vectra Has Been Fantastic. The Boot Is H
My Holden Vectra has been fantastic. The boot is huge, the engine revs nicely all the way through to 6000 and she handles reasonably well (considering the type of car she is). Reading all the other reviews, I just can't believe how much trouble other people have been having. Perhaps it's because mine is one of the overseas made ones? For the price of a new vetcra the car has been great value. We service it every 10,000 kilometres though, instead of the recomended 15,000. That just seems like a long time to use the same oil.

Holden Vectra - Throttle Out Of Control First 15,0
Holden Vectra - throttle out of control first 15,000kms-idling up and down on its own. Key locks still playing up, starter motor blew up. tyres worn at 40,000kms
My 1999 JS model Vectra is a nice car, however there are a few little hiccups it has. My idle went up and down after 10,000 kms and even switched off on me twice, but it has somehow fixed itself up. Now it has done 60,000kms and whenever I turn my car on the radio comes on full blast and i need to turn it down. It goes full blast once I touch the volume knob and then returns to normal. This only happens when I get in the car in the morning or if I havent driven it for a few hours. Have you had this problem?

Almost put off buying a Holden Vectra family car from number of reviews highlighting problems owners had. Have owned the car-1999, 2 litre hatch for 15 months and 20,000km. Enjoy driving it and have no regrets..
