I Was Reading One Of The Ladies Reviews About The
I was reading one of the ladies reviews about the vectra she onced owned, and mine is doing practically the same thing... I brought this car from a dealership(Which was once a lease/Rental Car, and not even the 1st year of owning this i had a problem with the car stalling, i told the dealer, but they would say that they have fixed it, when in actual fact i don't even think that they new much about the car. well that was'nt all that failed, within about 6 weeks after the 1st incident my engine light would come on for a few minutes then turn off, went to mechanic and they said nothing was wrong with it, well i still own this very car, and it has costed me a fortune to keep it going.... but overall for large families this is a good car, and if you are wondering if the faults had been fixed, well all i can say is that i am not spending any more to get this car fixed, the light is now a semi permanant fixture, and the stalling is still occuring, but the trick is to drive the car like you are driving a manual vehicle.... with 2 feet.

Once The Initial Niggles Were Fixed It Has Been A
Once the initial niggles were fixed it has been a great mid sized car with plenty of boot space and a reliable engine. Handles well and doesn't drink too much. If you look after it then it will look after you.

The cambelt on my Holden Vectra snapped at 6,000kms and air conditioning failed soon after. Economy exceptional though comfort not so. Good sized boot, nice interior stying.

Hi Vectra Owners, This Is Ngamoko The Once Ha
Hi Vectra Owners,
This is Ngamoko the once happy vectra owner (notice vectra is now written with a small v) Alas, no longer can I praise the virtues of this GM product. At 92000 IT broke a cam belt, no warning, traveling at 100ks motor stops. One thousand nine hundred and forty seven Australian dollars later. Thats right $1947. (approx 649 whiskys or 100 new cds or 660 dozen eggs). Have owned at least 30 cars and never had a cam belt break. What went wrong? Man, have I had some great explanations. However, the buck stops with me, I do the paying. Don't ask what I think about the vectra (with the small v) I burst into tears. Who wants to see a grown Man cry. I withdraw all those nice things I said about the vectra (with the small v) and put it in the same category as my once owned bmw (also in small letters).
Tell me what do I buy? Right now, those scooters on special at K Mart look good. To all those happy vectra owners, keep smiling this may not happen to you. Start at about 90000 saying everyday Ngamoko was just unlucky this will not happen to me, pat the car three times before you start it and drive with your fingers crossed.
Happy motoring.
Regards,
Ngamoko.
What kind of maintenance did you do on your car?
because if you had got it service every 10000ks wear and tear wouldve been easily picked up by your machanic. My partner and I have just brought a Holden Vectra GL 1999 manual transmission and the previous owner had no problems what so ever apart from normal wear and tear, however they did get it serviced every 10000ks and looked after it very well its only done 90,000ks now and is in a great condition. Like brand new really.
You were lucky, my cam belt broke at 46000km, I bought the lemon new! Bent valves, the works. 55000km, Air cond kaput, 65000km cam position sensor kaput, 82000km, alternator stops, whilst troubleshooting hear cambelt noise again. took it to dealer who said "very lucky it did'nt break" NZ$1400 later, how long will it last? Back door lock now stuck with the fancy deadlock engaged, actuator is open circuit! Result? cannot get to actuator (have to open door first) Cannot remove door at the hinges because of lock design. Oh well, back to the Dealer again. Can I afford to keep this dunger? P.S It did drive nicely until the first cam belt breakage, I suspect they shaved too much off the head and now the compression ratio is too high.
All this complaining about the cam belt braking, but you don't say when it was replaced before the break. Unless it was never replaced??? What is the recommended interval for replacement in the owner's handbook?

I have a 97 Holden Vectra GL 2 litre hatch. I've done 60,000km and had no problems at all. A terrific little car which has gone unnoticed in Australia due to the insistence by Australians for buying big, gas guzzling Commodores and Falcons. I have 2 large teenage kids and all 4 of us regularly holiday in the Vectra very comfortably. Its boot size is impressively bigger than Commodore and Falcon.
I bought the car in early 98 after driving a Vauxhall Vectra in England and was most impressed.
Vectra owners appear to either love it or hate it because of number of problems. I agree with this owners review and find the car great, 2 litre hatch. However have had 2 problems in 12 months, loss of steering fluid and sensor failure. In 15 years of driving Japanese cars never had a problem

I Have A 1998 Vectra Gl Made In Germany With Opel
I have a 1998 Vectra GL made in Germany with Opel engine. It has done 85,000 km I have had Holdens previously which have been reliable and the Vectra seemed to go well initially and was a nice looking car. Had various niggling problems from the start which the local dealer seemed unable to fix. Engine light coming on and off, airbag light on constantly, the button for adjusting the wing mirrors kept falling off, I think I have had eight of these now. The local dealer seemed unable to fix problem and then began lying saying they had fixed the problem when I am sure they hadn't done anything (another review had same problem). Then engine started cutting out when driving along. Eventually they replaced the crankshaft sensor at about 15,000 km the car having been in numerous times. The roof lining came down and took three days to fix. No courtesy cars. Now at 85,000 the timing belt has gone (out of warranty)however I have been fortunate enough that they are going to cover it under warranty especially as it is going to cost between $3000 and $4000 to fix! However, they also tell me the rear oil seal now needs replacing at $1400! I have enjoyed the car while it has been running well but intend putting it on the market now. Nice cars but unreliable and expensive to repair.
