The Ford Mondeo LX TDCi 130BHP has excellent fuel economy for a 2.0 litre ..roughly 45 to gallon

Overall it is comfortable, spacious, easy to maintain and cheaper tax.

I Have Just Brought Myself A 2002, Ford Mondeo 2.0

I have just brought myself a 2002, FORD Mondeo 2.0 TDCi LX, 5 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Diesel, in a light Blue colour - for £2800

This car come with all the normal features : ABS, Adjustable seats, Adjustable steering column/wheel, air conditioning, driver airbag, electric mirrors, electric windows, electrically adjustable seats, head restraints, folding rear seats, lumbar support, immobiliser, passenger airbag, power assisted steering, remote locking, side airbags, radio/CD, rear headrests.

However it doesn't mention the FUN you can have in this car. After managing to write my car off 2 weeks ago (moral of the story - don't pull out in front of vans!) I decided to get a solid car. One with lots of airbags! and not only does it have that - it had cup holders too!

I feel very safe in this car, it took a little while to get used to the low clutch and the turbo that seems to kick in even when trying to go slowly round a corner, but once you do get used to it, its a great thing to have on a car! Thinking about it, if my last car had a turbo, I may have missed the van altogether. Seeing as I have to commute to work I knew my next car should be diesel. In the Escort I was getting through £40 week easily and only getting about 235 miles out of that. I put £20 in the diesel when I brought it, not only did it appear to last more than a week. I got 300 miles out of it. I was very happy about that.

More importantly, Motorway driving is now a joy. In 5th gear you will think you are going quite fast, then you realise you have only pushed the pedal down about an inch. So over-taking is great, because 5th gear has so much to give. Getting to 120 from 80 is no chore for this car, but obviously I always drive sensibly ;)

Interior: Very tidy, although I think Ford have got slightly confused with roundness and straight edges design.

The car is trying to be modern with straight edges on the exterior of the car, then inside they start with straight edges and then you'll find odd bits like the clock, dials and awful looking stereo are all old-style roundness. It looks a bit messy, I think if they wanted to look modern they should have followed straight edges throughout the car, not mix it with other shapes.

Exterior: Lovely design, very sporty and modern. The wing mirrors are a bit bizarre (Hexagons or something), but the rest of the car flows nicely, everything looks stylish.

Lots of Boot Space, looks small from outside, but can fit my 2 large dogs in easily.

So far, this is the perfect car, I obviously haven't owned it long enough to comment on any problems. So I may have to amend this in a years time. But for now I'm extremely happy.

Ford Mondeo Lx Tdci,a Very Good Car So Far, Althou

Ford Mondeo LX TDCi,a very good car so far, although not happy about the clutch/flywheel thing, especially as have seen it appears to be a design problem on several forums (although Audi TT's seemed to have it worse!). Seem very good for the money (£6000 for a three year old one).

We got rid of the car just over a month ago. It was definitely built to last four years, got to the stage of 'what next?' Clutch (at £600) exhaust & brakes all within a year. Brakes were acceptable at 64k, but don't expect a clutch to cost so much and go at 60k, also not sure about exhaust at 66k on a car less than 5 yrs old? Maybe I expect too much, but there were other problems I could see developing. I wouldn't recommend a Ford despite the cheap prices, I can see where they come from!
