I Decided On The Alfa Romeo 166 Over The Bmw 5 Ser
I decided on the Alfa Romeo 166 over the BMW 5 series and Audi A4 and A6. Also consider the Saab 9-3 which is nice looking, but soulless to drive. I bought the car used with 89,000 KM and I've been very pleased. I concede that the interiors of the German cars feel a bit "tighter" than the Alfa, and the 2.0 is a wee bit under powered, but the Alfa's cockpit is one of the most underrated interiors of the last 10 years. Everything about it feels good. I'm happy being in it. I love the feel of the car. Everyone -- from colleagues to mother-in-law -- feels special inside it. It's the kind of feeling one might get from a very, very expensive automobile (Maserati, etc), but as a used car, the 166 is an excellent decision. The main reasons to avoid it -- including depreciation -- are mainly irrelevant by the time the car is 5 years old. It's already bottomed out. For the price of a used one, there is nothing that comes close.
