Peugeot 107 1.0 Urban

I was looking for a cheap to run second car but did not want to buy an old, high mileage vehicle. The salesman at my local Arnold Clark showed me the 107 urban 5 door. First impressions were, too small, poor build quality and underpowered. How wrong I was!

I bought the car after two test drives, have owned it for four months and feel qualified to review it.

Pro's;

Surprisingly spacious, accomodates four adults well and does not lose power or handling when full.Road tax at £20 is a bargain! Quality build where it matters, ie. dashboard and controls,cd/radio, central locking, seats, lights. Little engine is amazing, very nippy and smooth despite 3 cylinders. Handling and braking are good except at 70mph+.The boot looks tiny but is the depth of a standard carrier bag and we can do our weeks shop no problem. Fun to drive and has a character.

Cons;

Gear change, especially from first to second is poor and is the one thing That really spoils this car.Clutch is so light I cannot drive in my work boots. I have read other reviews which do not comment on this so it could just be my car. Road noise and handling at motorway speeds is so bad that you feel unsafe, I rarely use motorways thankfully. Fuel economy at average 50mpg is good but short of claimed 60+ and I travel mainly outside of rush hours. Rear wiper is pitiful, too small and not intermittant.

Overall;

A great, fun car if you want an ecomomical, practical town car. Running costs are really low too. Feels spacious and well designed. Not suitable for high speed motorway driving and clutch and gears awful. Despite its failings I like this car, it has character.
