We purchased a 1999 Honda CR-V about a year ago. To this point I have not had any problems with it. Our previous vehicle was a 1988 Jeep Cherokee, The CR-V is leaps and bounds better. The only areas where the Jeep would have outshined the CR-V would be towing capacity and off road ability. Having said that, if you are looking for loads of towing capacity or serious off road use you would not be considering a CR-V to begin with. The CR-V has tons of room for its size. For an SUV it is very sporty to drive. The 4wd system seems to work fine. Had no problems in last years huge snow storm. Long highway trips are a dream compared to the Jeep. Very quiet and smooth on the highway. The 2.0L 4 cyl does have to work a bit on long steep hills, but when the tranny kicks down the little motors pulls you along just fine.
Overall I would rate the CR-V very high.

A Good Attempt Buy Honda But Its Not Worth The Mon
A good attempt buy honda but its not worth the money i would go for the rav 4 i have test driven this car and also the x trail and rav 4 i liked the rav 4 the best then this then the x trail.
This car lacks the family enjoyment in the town.
ALSO NOT A SMOOTH CAR TEND TO BOUNCE ALOT.
not enough gadgets.
I own one and I get 31 miles to the gallon, which for the car it is is not bad, Landrover couldn't get that, neither could the RAV-4, all in all it cheaper to service than the above mentioned its also cheaper to repair than the above mentioned, but there again the RAV 4 is smaller......and again in defence the CRV is NOT a true 4X4, it's front wheel drive, it only becomes a 4 wheeled drive when the car detects wheel slippage.
Why did Solidsnakefa buy the car in the first place. It makes you wonder doesn't it?
