Approval Not Requested

I purchased a couple of 5L containers of Chief Chicasaw Engine Oil 5W 30 from Supercheap Auto in Victoria Park for $47.60 each. I was only servicing my VW Touareg so I felt I did not need to buy the expensive Mobil 1 oil that I usually put into my Porsche Cayenne. Chief is a relatively new brand that is competitively priced so I was keen to give it a go.

The first thing I disliked about this oil was the design of the barrel container. There Is a handle on the top, but nothing on the sides to assist with pouring the oil into the engine. Users of the 5L oil barrel are forced to use two hands whilst filling with oil.

Another shortcoming I found with

Chief Chicasaw Engine Oil barrel is the translucent plastic strip running vertically down the side of the container. This view strip is useless for measuring how much oil has gone into your motor because there is a sticker that almost covers it fully.

The final straw for me with this product was when I looked into the specifications of the oil from the manufactures website. I noticed an ( * Approval not requested ) beside the specification levels. This now has me sceptical if this product even meets the listed oil specifications levels because it carries no official industry approvals.

Although my the motor in my VW Touareg hasn't self destructed from using this oil, I am now reluctant to use this product again. If the future I will only purchase oil with an official industry approval.
