Dont Expect Too Much Here!

When I saw that the car I was collecting had not been valeted as they said it would be, I really should have heard the alarm bells ringing! Once they have your money don't expect any after sales care. They appear to be full of false promises which months after purchase have not been honoured. Save yourself the hassle and go to a professional dealer.

Needed A Van For My Doggies

I had looked at several vans and found the Nissan NV200 Combi. No-one could find me a 5 seater van only a 7 seater van, but Pentagon Barnsley did. The van enables us to take our two large German Shepherds with us wherever we go without worrying about putting them into a smaller car. The van is easy to drive and as economical as our previous car. We had a few problems with the van, but Pentagon sorted everything out without any fuss. This dealership is professional and honest, however I would have liked a bit more information about the warranty, upgrade and service plan before purchasing the car. There was not a problem with this, the managers listened and acted upon our issues promptly and efficiently.

Poor Customer Service

Bought a used car, car was not as advertised, pre vehicle checks I'm sure we're not carried out as the wiper blades need replacing the day I picked the car up, fluid levels needed topping up. Within 2 weeks the car had to have a considerable amount of repairs to the front suspension, but had to really press the point to get some satisfaction. Upon the car coming back after the repairs it still had to be taken to another garage as the work was not up to standard, certainly wouldn't ever buy another used car from Pentagon Barnsley.

After all the hassle I had with the car, the car having to go back yo Pentagon for 3 days to complete repairs, I would have expected them to at least make some kind of compensation offer, I.e £50 towards some fuel, no apologies were given, barely even replied to emails.

Expensive Mistake

Purchased a jeep grand Cherokee from here. Sales staff told me car came with a number of parts shown on spec sheet yet on purchase these didn't materialise. Prior to collection car was going to be checked and polished yet following collection car hadn't even been valeted and was released with no headlights. Then two days later spare tyre went flat. Since then found other problems with vehicle such as electrics, glow plugs, sensors and sat nav system which they inform me will cost 500 pounds on top of what I have paid for car and other bits that surprise surprise are not covered by their warranty. My advice is buyer beware.

Decent Cars, Very Poor Customer Experience

I saw a car which I liked at this garage and made an inquiry. The salesman seemed pleasant and rang me daily to see if I wanted to buy. I live 200 miles away and so couldn't easily see the car. I sent my parents who are more local. They saw the car but identified items which needed resolving - the car was a mess inside and out and there were scratches all over the back bumper. The salesman said they would be rectified, so I put a reservation fee down of £500 to hold the car pending me seeing it.

I also asked for some other items to be done (a shield on the alternator which is a £3 part and NOT to fit unless it was free.) I get a call the day before going up saying the part I wanted fitting for free was going to cost me £90 even though I didn't want it fitting. He reduced the price to £70 and said he would put some fuel in (£50) and mentioned something about brackets etc. I accepted this.

The following weekend I travelled up by train, saw the car and it was still filthy. I was promised it would get a professional valet and it hadn't (admittedly not the total fault of the salesman). I refused the car and asked for my £500 reservation fee back which was declined. The sales manager then spoke to me and stated that I would have to pay for the alternator part being fitted (which I didn't ask for) and the bumper respray because other customers "would live with it and buy it anyway". He didn't care that I'd spent £100 on train fare and 4hrs travelling. He offered to let me take the car and get it professionally valeted at their cost but I refused as I wasn't buying the car to then find out the car could not be cleaned (I'm no expert in valeting). I then left and decided to deal with this on Monday.

Monday came and no phone call. I rang up on Tuesday and they still wanted me to pay for the alternator fitting, the respray and the £50 of fuel. I declined and asked to speak to the area manager. He refused me any of my reservation fee saying I had entered into contract even thought the fee was a reservation fee. I stated I could cancel the deal within 7 days using the distant selling regulations. He then decided to ask me what the issue was and I stated the car was filthy. He then went to take a look at the car to let me know what he could do.

An hour later he came back, apologised about the state of the car, offered to pay for my train fare up and he would personally see that it would get a proper valet (they have a on-site valeting company which handles cars from all other garages). He also offered to deliver the car via trailer but I decided that I needed to see the car before paying.

On going back up again the car was in much better shape (not perfect - I could still get some marks out with my finger) and so I took it as mechanically everything was sound, the car had full service history, just been serviced, MOT etc. (which is the main appeal to begin with). They waived a 2% credit card fee and everything was OK. I'd previously asked about a updated Sat Nav disc which they hadn't asked about but said they would call the following week about and to see how I was getting on.

On driving the car down it was fine. I was told £50 of petrol went in but on filling up again when I got home with £35 and it came almost up to the same level I don't believe £50 went in. Also I've not heard anything from the original salesman regarding the Sat Nav disc.

Overall, a quite poor experience - typical salesman attitudes and bullying tactics. I am very careful about purchases like this and had the car not been the cheapest for its age, condition and history in the country buy a long way I would have not taken it. The sales and area managers were both very dismissive although the salesman I dealt with did try but forgot a lot of things (during the week they were preparing the car I had to email lists and ring daily to check on progress, and there was always something missing.

I wouldn't recommend Pentagon to anyone. They did offer me a service pack which I refused as I don't want to deal with them again. Be very careful about the terms and conditions and the reservation fee, especially if you ask for other things to be done to the car. Salesman were poor, didn't know what they were doing.

Update - owned the car for 6 weeks now, not a problem with it which is great.

However, I've found out that the V5 has NOT been sent (I needed it to transfer a private plate) and so they had to send that to me last week.

Also - there were no service receipts with the car, just the stamped book. I was led to believe that was all there was when I bought the car, so I set about trying to get them. The first 2 services were done by garages which don't exist anymore, the third by a garage who kindly sent me a copy. I tracked down the previous owner, who said every receipt for the car was in the book. On ringing Pentagon I found out they had them on file, but just the services receipts. Why were they not included when I bought the car? Previous owner also told me the alternator was changed, receipt was in the book but Pentagon don't have it, so where is it?

Hopefully this is the last contact I have with Pentagon now.
