“Yamasaki YM125-3 - Cheap Rubbish!!!”

Written on: 23/08/2012 by richy1986 (1 review written)

I choose YAMASAKI YM125 to get me to work and back (110 Miles A Day). It had to last me only 12 months, i would not care if it didn't last any longer than 12 months as only a temporary solution in order to save money for a van.
UNFORTUNATELY it didn't last that long at all. I have a lot of mechanical knowledge and have previously owned 6 different bikes so I have serviced the bike very well every 2 weeks(1000miles), and checking over everything every week (500miles). I will list all the problems i have had below:

0m - Valve gaps not set correctly at factory.
900m - Various bolts already working loose!
2500m - Horn mountings snapped off.
3250m - Rear wheel bearing worn out.
4000m - Chain fully stretched.
6000m - Swing arm bolt snapped (yes snapped) - VERY DANGEROUS!
6750m - Back tire completely warn out. (Crappy Cheap Tires)
7000m - Exhaust stud broke,
7250m - Front brake light switch broke
7500m - Lugs on left side panel snapped
8250m - Electrics below tank corroded - wire broke on regulator
9000m - Front shocks leaking oil and very un-even
9500m - Other exhaust stud snapped off inside the port.
10750m - Swing arm bent
11500m - Clutch plates warn out
12750m - Exhaust cracked
14000m - New front&back tires needed (To Be Expected at this mileage)
14250m - Exhaust bracket snapped off.
15250m - Rear brake Torque bar snapped (And nearly caused an accident)
16500m - Coil worn out (leaving me stranded)
17250m - Rear shocks have gone.
18000m - Brakes Front and Rear need replacing inc master cylinder
19250m - Frame Cracked near to swing arm mounts (Write Off)
20000m - Starter motor seized.
22000M - Catastrophic electrical fault - NOT WORTH FIXING ANY MORE.

Thats it iv done just over 22,000 IN 8 MONTHS and its at the end of its life, could go on fixing it further, but whats the point, i have rarely got 1000 miles before something els brakes, as well as a full service very regularly & costing a lot in new parts one after another!!!

So there you go. It has been very unreliable indeed. The ONLY good thing on the whole bike is the 156FMI Honda engine (if they set it up correctly in the factory). The whole bike is made from a very low quality parts & steel that bends and shears.

Most of my journey is on A roads cruising at 50 to 60 and never taken it over the red line!! Always covered at night. I thought with a stringent maintenance schedule that the bike would last 12 months and be ok, i wasn't ever expecting miracles - but i was totally wrong.

This bike would ever only be OK with doing a maximum 20 miles a day on 30mph or 40mph, and never more than 5000m per year. smooth roads, and never ever any more.If you are wanting to buy one make sure you know about bikes or you will be in for a shock how much it will cost to send it to the shop all the time at £40 per hour.

For the money £700ish forget it and go buy a second hand HONDA that's capable of 50,000. IV EVEN MANAGED 69,000 OUT OF MY OLD (REAL) HONDA CG
with parts lasting as long as they should last.

5 TIMES CHEAPER - BUT 5 TIMES LESS OF A BIKE!!!

Hope this is of help.

You rode 22000 miles on a Chinese bike! Of course it would have fell apart if you pushed it that hard, they're only for light usage.
