Stunningly Awful Customer Service

Since May we're trying to communicate with citibak UK about a serious issue and loss of funds, yet they are not repsonding. 1 physical letter, 1 visit to their offices in Canary Wharf, several emails and lots of phone calls. All for nothing!

Just stay away!

Worst Bank Ever.

I used Citibank when I was on secondment with my company in India. Having banked with quite a few different institutions over the years, I can say that Citibank is by far the worst I have ever used. When I was in India, everything had to be done face to face and branch opening hours were inconvenient. Now that I have returned to the UK, I cannot transfer my money because they have locked my account. Apparently I have to send a paper copy of my passport and (now expired) visa, which they already have, to get them to re-activate it. Despite it being an international company, the UK branches won't help me. I have advised my company never to use Citibank in the future.

Citibank Japan The Worst Ever!

I have been a long time customer with Citibank Japan, and they continue to be the worst bank in Japan. They will not let you change your address, and will lock your account. When I asked where was customer service when they had a problem, and why did not they call me if they had a problem with the snail mailing, the staff said, Yes why do we NOT do this?? They make you fill out unnecessary forms, waste your time, and quote antiquated rules. One minute they will tell you they are an American Bank in Japan and have to follow rules from the US, and then they say they have to follow Japanese rules. Some of these rules are not even done by the main Japanese city banks, but some how Citibank has to follow these rules. In the past I have had every branch manager tell me how sorry they are at all the trouble. Some branch managers have even said how hard they will try to fix the problems, but always come back and say 'Sorry, it cant be fixed'. Finally Citibank includes marketing info in English in your account mailing, yet for the past 20 years these brochures are very poorly written. It makes you wonder who is in charge of Citibank Japan??? Individual account holders are always arguing with their customer service and corporate accounts cannot even get true internet service. In Japanese Citi-bank, is pronounced, shitty-banku, and Citibank sure lives up to how you would say their name in Japanese. Stay clear, you will be a lot happy by not dealing with Citibank Japan!!!

Seem To Think It's Their Money, Not Mine

This review applies to Citibank Japan, simply the worst bank I have ever dealt with. Moved without telling them, so they locked my account without telling me, despite having my email address. Couldn't get money out all of a sudden, nor log in online. Nice. Called them from overseas, they said I needed to send an address change form, which I did. Received a reply at my new address saying my signature did not match so I would have to re-sign the form and send it in again. You've got to be kidding me. Every other bank these days allows address changes online, I seem to have gone through a time machine to the 1970s with these guys. I have a not insubstantial amount of money that I cannot access there and a completely unfriendly and unhelpful staff whenever I contact them. I have been a customer for nearly 20 years and will immediately close my account, if I ever get it unlocked, and move my funds to a bank that understands the concept of listening to your customers. Absolutely the worst service you can possibly hope to receive from a bank that you have used for 17 years.

A Complete Shambles

I have held a Euro current account with Citibank UK which I manage over the internet. I needed to make a SEPA payment to a German bank and filled in their online form. Nothing happened it seems there is a bug that only affects customers who have a single account with them. Tried to use telephone banking, having never had a need to use it before; no luck my PIN was locked. Ordered a new PIN and tried again. It was also repeatedly locked and I spent over an hour being repeatedly put through their systems listening to the same recorded tripe and then being put through to a new operator. Have messaged them online and written to their European CEO but no reply. Please steer well clear of Citibank UK.

Citibank Are Utterly Incompetent

I was a Citibank customer for over 17 years and a Citigold customer for over 5 years. In October 2013 I was informed that they had decided to close all my accounts and that I had two months to move my finances to another bank!

Over several days I tried to find out why they had decided to do this, but no one could tell me anything. Once I escalated this matter to more senior management (very difficult to do!), it turned out they had made a huge mistake and I should never have been told my accounts were to be closed.

By this time I had already decided to move to another bank. The UK Citibank Management Team seem to have lost control of customer service. It made me realise that Citibank are so far behind the curve in terms of service and technology. I'm sure I made the right decision to move on.

Very Poor Service

Have banked with Citi since 1989 in Japan. Held accounts in Japan, Germany and now in the UK. Service has been rudimentary at best and have made some major mistakes (such as forgetting to transfer money to a pension funds etc). Accepted all this as had strange attachment to the bank after all these years. Today they notified that they will close my account after 24 years. They dont want my business anymore apparently. I have plenty of cash in the account and has been like that for years. No info - just closing my account. Phoned/joined another bank and was amazed at the level of service and responsiveness. I suspect Citi will close its retail banking in the UK - it cannot compete with its terrible level of service. It will just focus on expats. After all these years with the bank I can honestly say there is nothing to recommend them. Should have left them many years ago as my friends kept telling me to do. Sad to say but don't waste your time with Citi in the UK.

No Service At All From Citibank India

It is very sad that Citibank does not care about the customer issues. I have been chasing them for the last 3 months to cancel a draft they sent to wrong address. It is their mistake. They ask silly question like what was your number 5 years back. What transaction your did many months back instead of asking genuine questions to identify the person.

MY SINCERE ADVICE IS AVOID CITI BANK AT ANY COST. I AM STILL STRUGGLING TO GET MY MONEY BACK. 3 MONTHS NO LUCK. I AM DEALING WITH CITI BANK CALL CENTRE IN INDIA(BANGALORE)

Worse Than Horrible = Citibank

What can I say that you don't already know about Citibank? They took $300 billion in US taypayer money, and still cannot provide customer service. All I want to do it call my local branch office to ask a question. Citibank seems to think I need to provide my customer account to ask my question. After (almost) endless attempts to make me conform ("I'm sorry, I didn't get that) and auto-routing, I made it through to a customer "rep" WHO THEN TRANSFERRED ME TO ANOTHER AUTOMATED SYSTEM! Citibank seems to have forgotten that they provide a service to customers. A simple telephone number to my local branch would allow these customers to call, ask question, solve problems, and do business. Instead, we're treated like animals being lead through an auto-route gauntlet.

I don't really know why I'm writing this review. It's not like Citibank will read or care about it if they do.

Citibank Upraisal And Nepotism

Citibank UK is one of the worst companies to work for. The feedback that you give about your manager can be read by your manager with the employee id. The upraisal is minimal or no upraisal. Some of your seniors tell you that the other guy got a lead role coz she/he put down his paper. The have a system of cost effectiveness wherein they make a contractor a VP even though she/he deserves AVP. People with Hopes stay in the company that their designation would increase. The rating system is such that you dont exceed a 3 and max is a zero.

Designation wont be an issue if you can work for $1 annually.
