Holiday Shocker

Holiday Shocker

This firm promotes itself as offering the ‘personal’ touch and they are indeed very pleasant people – but, if you are in any way involved with them, just hope you don’t need to do any business with them over the holiday period!

We recently left our rented house and awaited the return of our substantial deposit (£3600) held, through the Tencancy Deposit Scheme, by the Corporate Letting Company.

I knew the check out report had been delivered to CLC on 3 August 2016 and waited for them to contact us about the deposit: nothing. First thing in the morning on 15 August I emailed them to enquire about the delay: within two hours it was all resolved – the agent spoke to the landlord and confirmed the deposit would be returned in full; he also confirmed he had filled in all the necessary paperwork. So presumably the money would be in our account within a few hours? Nope. Well, by the end of the day then? Nope. It turned out I would have to wait until Friday because the one person who ‘has access to banking’ was away on holiday. Inevitably the flight was delayed and I finally received confirmation that the deposit had been returned on Saturday morning.

I cannot comprehend that a business allows the one person with access to banking to go on holiday without transferring that ‘power’ to another person until their return.

Apparently I have nothing to complain about though – they did tell me it can take big companies up to five days to process such returns anyway: really?! But I thought CLC was better than a big company because they offer that 'personal' service? In any event, they had the check-out report on 3 August and I finally had access to MY OWN MONEY on 20 August…that’s 17 days not 5.

It all smacks of ‘amateur hour’ to me.

You only got the Landlord's permission to release the deposit on the 15th because I chased it up: you had had the check-out report for 12 days before that and had done precisely NOTHING with it.

Having only one person with access to bank accounts is all well and good but it is utterly ridiculous that the access is not 'transferred' to another person in the organisation for the purposes of holiday cover. Or are your other staff so untrustworthy that you're not comfortable with that...?

Slightly dramatic headline. We received the landlords consent to release the deposit on the 15th and the deposit was paid on the 20th as I was away. For the security of clients money, we only have one person who can have access to the bank accounts.

You have acknowledged the fact that you have had good service from us, for which I thank you
