Rbs Offset Nightmare
I am currently trying to get an RBS Offset Mortgage. I need to borrow only 30% of the value of the property, having sold my own house 5 months ago.
I wish I could give RBS zero stars, they are so utterly useless it defies belief. Their 'process' is to ask for a piece of information, wait a week and then ask for the next piece (even though I have faxed each requested item to them on the day from a local branch - 69 pages in 3 visits so far...) and so on.
The underwriters will not speak directly to you and fail to clearly identify what they need - relying instead on some administrators to add their own interpretation of what is required.
Favourite moments so far include:
1) Being treated as the owner of the property I am trying to buy (those poor souls are also using RBS Offset).
2) One administrator who changed her mind 3 times in one conversation about the information that she needed (needless to say it was the wrong information that she finally asked for).
3) Despite having a solicitors letter detailing the sale of my previous house an adminstrator claimed to need proof of where the money came from. He was unable to elaborate on the form of this proof.
Avoid these cowboys at all cost - no deal is worth it.
I can't agree any more! I have been going through exactly the same pain with RBS. Have been dragging on for 2 months, and still going...

I Had A Great Time With Them
I've just dropped off my fixed rate mortgage, but I can't fault them for the time I was with them. They had the cheapest fixed rate (by quite some margin). They were very quick to process my application (I know no-one else was applying around this time). Payments always came out on time and for the right amount - not much more they could do.
