Clydesdale Mortgage Treats Top Clients Like Dirt
Clydesdale mortgage is a nightmare to navigate even if like us you have a perfect credit score and are to every other lender you have ever approached, the perfect customer. My husband and I have over half a dozen mortgages between us so we know exactly what constitutes a good lender and a bad one. Luckily we are relatively wealthy and have never had any financial problems. However, although my husband and I earn over £150,000 a year between us, and gave the Clydesdale mortgage lenders three months personal bank statements, three months joint statements, company accounts for the past three years, have never been overdrawn in our lives and own six houses, plus our accountants gave them references and the HMRC even wrote to them confirming our salaries, doing a simple remortgage on a buy to let flat at 60% LTV became a nightmare. The reason - despite sending the Clydesdale mortgage lenders so much information, and the fact this prime property is rented out and earns us thousands of pounds in rent a year- they then wanted even more details about our finances. The Clydesdale wanted information such as how much we spend on stamps in our businesses per year (yes really that is what one of our accountants was asked!) a forensic and absurdly detailed explanation on why in one of our businesses profit was down by £10,000 from the previous year (when there is over £150,000 cash in the bank in that business). Eventually sick of sending off so many pieces of paper to the Clydesdale, we googled them only to find in 2013 they were fined almost £9million by the FSA for mishandling customer's mortgage accounts. They've been ordered to pay back millions. It was the final straw - we didn't want to be with a bank that treats its customers like dirt especially when we can choose the lender we go with. Yes it was a very low rate (our broker said the best on the market) but we walked away and told them we didn't want their mortgage and found another.
They are a complete and utter nightmare - be warned if we, as perfect clients with such excellent accounts and luckily no financial problems find the Clydesdale mortgage difficult, everyone else will. As landlords we are getting mortgages all the time but wouldn't touch this bunch with a barge pole.
